Apologies if this has been asked a thousand times before but I'm new here!!

Basically my wife and I both have just over 21K of miles. We've signed up for the new black credit card and hope to take advantage of the offer of 31K more (after 90 days and the relevant spend level) which will give us both enough to upgrade from economy to upper class for our next visit to Las Vegas next year.

My question is how do I find which flights/seats are available to use these miles for? If I just go through the normal Virgin site and I can't see anything that relates.

Sorry for being a noob!!

Welcome to V-Flyer.

In order to upgrade with miles, you have to buy a ticket in the correct (more expensive) bucket.

It is all explained on the VS website here - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... _table.jsp

It is isn't the most simple process, there has to be reward availability in the class you are upgrading to - it is best to give the Flying Club a ring - be prepared to give a number of dates - depending on the route you want to fly - some routes have good availability, whilst others are harder to find -especially in school holidays.

The Vegas route is notoriously difficult to get upper rewards> You may want to try flying into SFO or LAX then getting VX to Sin City 8D

Thanks Nick...we're very flexible as to when we can go so once we have enough miles I'll give them a ring.

To find available seats:
Best to do it for each leg because if you try a return and one way doesn't have reward seats it will give a nil return on the whole search. So:

Try and book a flight one way to LAS in Upper using miles.
It will show any dates near yours with reward seats.
Then do the same for the return leg.
When you find the two dates with seats you want to travel then phone up and book the whole thing.

But is booking a UC seat with miles different from booking an economy seat an using miles to upgrade?

Yes but both are reward seats from an availability point of view.
So check if you can buy the UC seat with miles on line, then when it becomes available phone up and buy the upgradeable economy one and upgrade with miles.
