Hi,

I'm looking at going to Vegas over Easter next year and all the flights I'm looking at seem to be direct from Gatwick to McCarran, but all the returns seem to require a connecting flight via either LA or NY (other than one ludicrously priced direct VA flight).

Any ideas why this is the case.
I looked in October this year to see if it was any different and it wasn't which is a shame as I would prefer to fly direct.

I am looking at PE seats, but outbound it's showing as approx £750 each and return leg is at least double that !!!

Any pointers ?

Thanks
Andy

Hey Andy,
Pretty sure there are more airlines than just VS that fly direct to LAS from the UK (I can think of a few) but only a few.
The amount of slots in to an airport are limited.
As for the costs of seats, as you can imagine its a very desirable route. When the airlines can almost guarantee they can sell all the seats the costs will be at a premium. When you add dates like Easter when then kids are off, you are asking for the costs to be even higher. If you can be a little flexible with your dates you may have better luck, if you cannot then you have to take what you can get. A non-direct flight may be cheaper but only you can decide if that saving is worth the connections and extra time to get there.

Hi Andy
I too was looking @ LV for easter and yes they were available last week but now as you said the rtn is indirect ?|

Very strange as I fly this route wuite alot and the flights are usually busy and last week when I checked there were plenty of availabilty all over the easter two weeks so its puzzling where they have gone.

Maybe call VS

Hi Kabuta007 - thanks for confirming I'm not going mad. Glad you have seen this too as I was convinced I had seen available direct return flights previously.

I'll try and give VS as call but it anyone else knows why direct return flights have disappeared from the website please let me know.

Thanks
Andy

The only reason for them not being offered is due to their being no availability on the dates you are looking at.

The fact you are getting a high priced direct flight would suggest there is only full fare availability supporting my assumption that the flight(s) are very heavily booked/sold out.

I have checked on the ITA matrix and return flights are available in PE non stop from around £1500 over that period. As it is school holidays demand will be high, but with flexibility you should be able to get that price. Have you checked I the Delta website they may still have cheaper fares left on the same VS metal. Also BA have flights available from both LGW and LHR. if you are pricing the tickets as two singles they will be far more expensive as different fare rules apply.

Thanks for the replies.
After looking at Virgin Holidays, I got a good price through them with direct flights.

Now looking at BA/Delta, as BA currently beating Virgin by about £300, so looks like I'm actually going to get it cheaper than I thought.

Thanks for your help all. Saved me some money by the looks of it, although I'll be doing all I can to fly VS if I can.
