I'm flying up to Scotland in a couple of weeks with Mrs D, staying one night and coming back.
Normally I go on the motorbike, but I'm collecting my mother so that's not an option. Can't get three of us on the bike.

Taxi is about £60 each way.
Would car parking be a better option and if so where to park?
I need to be able to pick up the car pretty quick if do take it.

Have a look at Heathrow parking (via VS shops away) the short stay should fit your needs I usually use the long stay car parks and have never had any complaints.
And have earnt a few miles booking via online shopping and collecting Heathrow Worldpoints.

Also try Holiday extras or Heathrow BAA direct, if you are registered with Topcashback you will get money back, or through VS if you prefer points. The short term car parks do not come up on HE only by booking direct with Heathrow Parking, they are normally the closest. Linda y)

I love the convenience of walking to check in, so if a trip is only a short one, I pre-book a short term carpark. It's worth comparing the prices on the Heathrow parking booking engine as they do differ sometimes between each terminal and yet the distance between them is not far (have a look on a map) so you can sometime save a few £s. The "drive up" price would make them too expensive (for me).

The other option I have used and been happy with is the NCP for T1,2,3. It's just by the Park Inn hotel so very close, meaning the bus trip is short and in my experience reliable.

Both of these options don't require you to hand over your car keys, which I really don't like. It's not that I have a fancy car, more my paranoia!

Many thanks all.
Have booked via virgin shops away. (6 miles per £)
Just under £60 so less than one way taxi.
Used my Virgin Amex card so I'll have over 400 miles.
It was the same price going direct to Heathrow Parking.
