I've just called the Flying Club again today. The first time was about 2wks ago and in both calls I asked the same question but with 2 different answers. So maybe someone can confirm which is correct.

LGW - CUN
My plan is to buy 2 x 'M' and upgrade to 'G' on the outbound flight for Mrs Chilled and myself using my miles. This shouldn't be a problem as there is a good amount of availability right now.

CUN - LGW
I have 2 x PE rewards upgrades (via my VS MBNA CC) on my FC statement and I'm looking to use them in my return flight to Cancun. I am willing to purchase 2 x EC miles seats and use the upgrades with them.

The first call 2wks ago said I could and even quoted me the miles and total cost as if she was reading it straight off the screen. I am more likely to believe this as it did sound like the computer was saying 'yes'!

The second call today, I made just to confirm really. I was told straight away, by a gentleman I had trouble understanding, that this couldn't be done. He said he even asked his supervisor to confirm. He said something about not being able to split them (reward upgrades).

So if anyone can put this to rest, maybe by past experiences, then I can finally make a firm booking and hold whatever seats, utilising the best use of my miles/upgrades I can.

Always in debt to this site and it's members who can put things right with a swift input of awesome knowledge y)

Thanks in advance,

AC

Seems most likely the second agent is thinking you want to use one upgrade voucher for one leg on two tickets. I'm fairly sure that you CANT do that, but if you make it clear you are using 2 PE upgrade vouchers but only expecting 1 leg for each you should be OK.

I have a booking for nine days times where I was permitted to do that!

Latest and final update:-

I've finally managed to book what I wanted after speaking to a lovely lady in the Flying Club team last weekend. I won't mention her name as I wouldn't want to embarrass her, but if she is reading this then I thank you for you patients, sense of humour and professionalism.

I managed to book 2 x 'M' fares outbound from LGW to CUN and upgraded both to UC using my miles. Returning, I bought 2 x EC seats with miles and used ONE voucher from my MBNA Virgin CC to upgrade both return EC seats to PE. So not only was I allowed to split the fares this way, but I was also allowed to use 1 reward upgrade instead of 2.

Total cost inc taxes = £1450 and 83,000miles (cheap on the £ but ouch on the miles!).

Even though I am delighted by getting the 2 x 'G's' and able to split the single reward upgrade. I am annoyed that if I had have taken the 2nd Flying Club members advice, I'd be well out of pocket and used a similar amount of miles for the exact same flights. If he was new then fair enough, but he also said he asked his supervisor to confirm his answer.

I hope this advise goes into the knowledge database for any future questions and I'll keep a lookout if anyone does ask. I'll also try my best to do a good TR for you all as it's the least I can do for all your kind help.

Honeymoon here we come!

AC.

Glad you are all sorted. A little case of inconsistency. I am sure I have been told you can't split an upgrade voucher before... Thanks for confirming that.

Have a great trip, and congratulations!
