Just working out I may make Gold for life on the 300 TP over 10 year criterion next few years (ie under 5) relatively easily with amount of work trips planned over next few years.

Anyone think there is possibility VS will exclude the metal requirement and include DL here in future? Seems interesting the main partner is excluded here given amount of code sharing going on across atlantic.

If not, I think I'll try to switch VS to VS metal transatlantic where makes sense, given most my earnings TP wise are transatlantic UC's.

In positives, I am going to make VS Gold this year now, guaranteed with booked trips. Quite happy, given that I've had quite a few trips on the other airlines.

I doubt it, like BA's similar scheme this is a reward for being a loyal VS customer over the years. Neither BA nor VS include partner flying.

One question, did you mean 300 TPs over five years? Because it is 300 TPs PLUS 10 years of FC Au, not either or. Also 10 years of FC Au effectively means 11 years due to the 13 month cycle of FC membership.

No, with BA all one world tier points count towards life membership. This is one real advantage of the proper alliance.

Indeed - that's what we all understood when it was introduced...

But, if you look at the Gold Benefits page:
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... efits.html

They say-
"Gold for life If you have earned 300 tier points on Virgin Atlantic flights within 10 consecutive years."

....which could be interpreted somewhat differently. ?!

According to FC, that was an error and that 10 years Gold membership is also required

The clock starts when you first become gold. So first point to consider is that tier points used to achieve gold in the first instance don't count.

From the point you get gold you then have 10 calendar years (120 months) to get 300 VS tps, but you must be Au constantly during this period.

Eight years and 248 TP's to go for me.

I guess I'll have to start again next year though as I'll not get 20 VS TP's before the year is over, not even the 16 I'm due on my DL flight to LAS will prevent me from going down to AG.

Unfortunately yes, it was discussed here when GfL was first announced but the web site was never altered ... mind you, I could have got GfL within a year and a bit if that was the case!
