So I have my flights for next July to SFO booked. Got 2 x G's out, got PE back. Checking daily for G's on the return - happy to take just 1 if necessary.

Today - great availability - happy days. BUT...

The summer SFO flights have been released and so the G's are on the new flight, which is a A340, and leaves SFO about 10pm, getting to LHR about 5.00pm.

So left if for now as I would prefer the earlier flight as on a 747 and flies at a better time (IMHO), plus would have to pay a transfer fee as well.

But have that sinking feeling that G's will now be even harder on the 747 flight, as Virgin may choose to put them on the later flight.

You may not want to take the chance, but I've always found at the US airports if there are still unsold seats in UC when check-in opens, they're willing to sell miles upgrades at the desk.

SFO's always a popular route though, so it is a gamble.
