Is it worth me transferring miles from my wifes fc account to mine?

She only earns miles when she flies, whereas I earn from shops away and from the Virgin Atlantic MBNA cards.

If I were to transfer her 14000 miles to me (plus 3500 bonus miles) it would cost £120.

Do you need the miles at the moment? Are you looking to book a flight? Don't forget you can use miles from two accounts for one booking providing it is single leg amounts.

So if you wanted to upgrade from economy to PE on a round trip, you could use 10k miles from your account and 10k miles from her account to cover the 20k total miles needed.

In my opinion unless it is absolutely necessary and going to save a good amount doing it, then I would never transfer miles, it's just a waste of money.

ah ok thanks. I didnt know you could use miles from both accounts on one booking.

Might as well leave them then as she will also get miles from LHR to LAX and LAX to HNL (all return) in December.

Might it be worth getting her to sign up to the Virgin credit cards too. There is usually a hefty bonus when you first start. I think it currently 10000 for the white card and 25000 for black.
I would not transfer. I would get her to collect a few more.
If she has done a flight within six months then miles booster is still available. If you spent the £120 there you'd get 12000 miles giving 26000 to play with. Enough for a full UC upgrade one way to the states.

I think (ISTBC) that you can only really do this over the phone and both account holders need to be on the call but saves the cost of transfer (which you instead put to use on a miles booster...)

PJH is correct!!
If I had known this in the beginning I wouldnt have had to waste 40K of my own Amex airmiles (still havent got over that lol).

From Can miles be combined across accounts?

Members may also spend miles from another account where they are an authorised account user. There must always be sufficient miles in any account for a redemption of any kind, e.g. a one way reward. Since our one way redemptions are half price of a full redemption, members can book e.g. one sector from one account, and the return sector from another account.

What OP would need to do is get his wife to call VS and for her to give him permission to be able to use her miles.

I'm pretty sure even if Mr W were an authorised user for my account he wouldn't know what to do with the miles...

I've just had this issue. I paid to transfer miles to my husbands account. I managed to get a refund of the fee eventually. I would ring up now and get them to put on your accounts that it's OK for you to use each others miles. It was a right old fuss and hassle to book our flights and cost a fortune in phonecalls. Use saynoto0870 :)

Also had to ring amex to allow the payment for the flights to go through too, twice.
