My VA flights were reserved with a TA as part of a package. As for previous flights I wanted to reserve Extra Legroom seats, but my TA informs me that they won't have my Locator number until 60 days prior to flight as they were 'allocation' seats.

I booked before the official flight release date through the TA. Are the TA's allocated a certain number of seats that they can sell before the flights are actually released, and is this what they mean by 'allocated seats'?

Also, why would they only get the PRN 60 days before the flight?

I've never had this issue before, even when booking through a TA.

If anyone could enlighten me I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

At the moment, you can only reserve seats at t-60 for all VA flights - but this will; change at some point.

This is completely separate to the "ticketing" / PNR issue. Some TA's won't actually get / give you the PNR until much closer to the departure - maybe that depends a little on when you actually pay for the flight, but my recent Virgin Holiday's booking gave me the PNR long before I had paid the balance of the holiday. The "extra legroom" does complicate this a little, I presume you are in Y / economy, and as far as I know your TA should have booked these for you - but you won't be able to get specific seats allocated in advance as their locations vary by specific plane...

According to he Virgin website, the extra legroom seats are GBP40 / USD 60 each way for most transatlantic routes; LAS & LAX are 45/70 each.

I think it can also relate to some tour operators having block bookings of seats and not having the individual PNRs until they have been allocated to the passengers (with some tour ops, but not VH, this can be when you have paid your full amount).
