It's all a gamble.
Book early and pay the full price, but bag your seat now that the new selection system is up and running.
Wait and see if there is a sale and maybe save some money but risk not getting the seat you want.
Sorry but there is no definitive answer.
Personally I book my flights the day my return is available.
Are you paying money or using miles?

Mostly money but might chuck some miles in to get the price down a bit, thinking of the sale they sometimes do in late December early January as it's normally fairly good prices

My reason for booking early is because I use miles to upgrade so need to rely on getting in quick when reward seats become available.
If you are not looking for reward seats then waiting for a sale makes more sense.
