Hi, just noticed the 9 was canceled today. Does anyone know why?
Probably bad weather affecting the east coast, I imagine.
We were on it...
It was a faulty fuel pump. Got as far as the holding point before the runway when we went back to try and have it fixed, clearly to no avail. Engineers spent over an hour on it but I think it just became time critical and futile as it was now after 6 and re bookings would be needed.
All was pretty well handled by Virgin, with people being rebooked onto the VS17 or VS25, or offered travel the next morning. Food vouchers were handed out, although with little time to spend them I'm not sure how useful that was. Quite a few upset people around who found out meals couldn't be cross-loaded so I hope they were OK?
Only slightly naughty thing was an inconsistency of compensation claim/info leaflets being handed out. We'll definitely be trying to reclaim under EU261 as surely a faulty fuel pump falls under maintenance (or lack thereof). I guess time will tell!
Anyhow, in NYC now and thank God for a Gold Card and clubhouse access to ease the pain of the delay.

Glad you made it to NYC and have taken the delays in good stride - yes the Au card would have helped
How is Manhattan at the moment?
Faulty fuel pump, I'd say that is on VS - although be prepared for the amusing justification they will no doubt use to try to wriggle out of it.

Glad you finally made it to NYC.
My VS75 4hr+ delay caused by a faulty fuel relief value was eventually accepted by VS and I did receive my €600 compensation via EU261 so I cannot see any reason why yours won't be as well.

Compensation will depend on how long you were delayed by when compared to your originally scheduled arrival time.
Huzzah for International Jet-setting !
Thanks for the insight, and sorry to hear about the delay. Also pleased to know that you got to NYC ok, and VS handled the situation fairly well.
Good luck with the compensation claim, too.

I think an arrival time more than 4 hours after the scheduled arrival time equates to compensation equivalent to that as if the flight had not taken place i.e. money back for the flight.
Just a quick update for those who may be interested...
Cheque arrived on Friday for the GBP equivalent of the full 600 Euros. No arguments, no quibbling, no further proof asked for. To paraphrase the letter enclosed from VS accepts full responsibility for the fault and delay; and, upon my cashing of the cheque the matter will be deemed to be closed.
Just shows what you can achieve with a little V-Flyer knowledge as without you guys I would never have known to go after those elusive compensation forms when we were in the scrum of being transferred to another flight. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
All I need to do now is cash it and spend the money on another VS flight!!!
Mr G.

Pleased to hear the good news and to know VS paid up without trying it on.
