Afternoon V-Flyers

We have been planing a trip to South Africa in 2016 and the original idea was to get a couple of Gs out to Cape Town and then probably back again from JNB. However... VS have cunningly pulled the CPT route from under our feet.

For cash fares, VS offer a codeshare on VS8327 to get passengers to CPT from the VS JNB flight, however what I'm wondering is if FC will book me a G (probably upgraded from an M) to JNB and then the onward connection for cash on the same ticket for all the usual reasons. Is this something that anyone has experience in?

And pointers appreciated.

Thanks as always,
NKP

Not sure about the combined ticket .. but.. be aware that "G" availability has become very low after the introduction of the 789 planes from October onwards... Less UC seats so they'll want to get more revenue v(

So good luck with e search for the upgrades. ii)

Having watched the JNB flights like a hawk for the last 2 months I can back cooperman up with the rarity of the Gs now the flight has moved onto a 787.

The only patterns I have seen for the LHR - JNB flight is day 1 of release a EC and UC get released, the next day a PE gets released. After that once the UC goes it really does vary as to what crops up!

I am hoping something opens up over time, especially as and when revenue get a better feel for how things work on the 787s!

You cannot combine a miles booking and a cash booking in the way you want.

Is the onward flight with a VS partner (code shares are not the same)? If so then VS may be able to book it all as one ticket for all miles - assuming reward tickets are available on the connection of course.

It might come at a horrendous cost in miles but worth the ask!

another thing for you to consider which is what I did, even though it means a move to the dark side :) I took out a platinum amex and have used the 35k membership rewards points and transferred them to avios to pay for business class flights within SA with BA (comair)
