Hi guys

Can anyone explain why using Miles on return flights from Manchester to Orlando is barely making any saving?

Flight dates are 19 Aug to 3 Sep for 2 adults and 1 child.

Previously using my Miles (1000 miles per passenger per flight) would save 25% of the entire (around £700), but now doing so is only saving a poxy £160.

Cheers

Hi,

You are correct, MPM fares often offer very little saving over the straight cash fare, however sometimes, as you have found out previously they sometimes offer a nice saving. There isn't a specific reason for this, just whatever Virgin determine at the time.

I know a lot of people on here don't like/use them (me included), but what MPM fares do, is allow some customers who fly long haul very rarely burn a few miles to save a bit of money, which when you are planning a family holiday somewhere it might be a welcome saving, even if only very small.

If there is a sale on (and it appears there is from this page ) then M+M fares can be perceived as being poorer value i.e. an apparent lesser saving than compared to the 'normal' fare.

You also need to factor in the ~£70 saving now that children are exempt from APD.

Thanks guys - and thanks for that link.

One other question here - is 1000 miles the maximum miles per person per flight when booking an economy flight? Didn't seem all that clear on the Virgin site terms.

For economy it is 2000 miles per person on a MPM booking. You can't increase it to say 5000 miles and get a slightly bigger discount.

Cheers Neil, is that 2000 per flight each?

Or 1000 for outbound and 1000 for inbound flight?

I have 16000 miles but it's only letting me use 1000 per person per flight.

Will be interested to see how prices change after 17 March, which of course is tomorrow. These may be sale prices but the prices today are still a lot more than they were a few weeks ago!
