Thanks to a late booking and a busy flight, the mileage gods have frowned on me and I will be in Y on a 747 ex-LHR. :0

I have various seat options and am looking for some advice. The seat ratings section on this site is a bit sparse for this aircraft.

Choices are:
1. regular aisle seat, upper deck
2. exit row just by toilets downstairs (row 39)
3. exit row by galley downstairs (further back, row 49)
4. extra legroom aisle seat, downstairs
5. regular aisle seat, downstairs

My hunch is that 1 is best (find the exit row seats very narrow) but have never tried the extra legroom ones.

What do you guys think? Thank you in advance. :)

Depends how tall you are I guess! The additional 3" you get with extra legroom seats does make a difference but if like me you're well over 6' and even find PE tight it'll still be uncomfortable.

So if legroom's the key factor for you, I'd bite the bullet and go for an exit row. If it's not hugely important I'd go for an extra legroom seat and if it's not an issue at all go for the bubble for the ambience.

Thanks gumshoe. I'm less than 6' tall so the extra legroom is welcome but not critical. I suppose my other consideration is speed of disembarkation - and I think upper deck wins there too. Decisions...

One final consideration might be proximity to bathrooms and galleys etc - certainly if any of your flights are overnight.

I think upstairs would always be prefable, I'm fairly certain that section is also fast to dis-embark as well.

My husband is 6ft 2 and we have got him aisle seat upstairs for May. Had the choice of exit seat downstairs but he says that he prefers the peace and the atmosphere upstairs :)
