For our SFO flight in July we will need to get from King's Cross to LHR. We usually use the Piccadilly line. We cannot be bothered with the hassle of getting to Paddington to use the HEX.

So I thought of using a cab firm and DTCI. Got a quite tonight of £140 return. Anyone have any recommendations for this?

Also how long do you think it would take at about 07:40 on a working day?

At 07:40 the Hammersmith and City and Circle lines going towards Paddington won't be too bad to be honest with you, certainly a lot better than the Picadilly line down to Heathrow.

Given the likelihood of traffic on the M25 and in London generally if it was me, I would either go for a cab along Euston road to Paddington for Heathrow Express, or the tube to Pad!

To be honest, even a taxi of the rank at KX won't be as expensive as what you have been quoted!!

Checked a few websites and they're quoting £70-110 depending on route. Depends how many of you and luggage but I'd rather go by the tube. Even a chauffeur car wouldn't cost what you've been quoted.

Personally, for the very small sum of £5.10 or £3.10 off peak if you get yourself an oyster or use the new contactless pay, I nearly always get the Piccadilly Line now.
I always used to get the HEX and the number of times I spent waiting 15 mins for the connecting tube to King's Cross from the HEX almost cleared out the advantage.
A copy of the metro and a music player / fave. book and that 55 mins will fly past.

try www.exclusiveairports.com

I've used them before.

Should be less than £50. Less if you pre-pay

I did KX by taxi to Paddington then the HEX last year, cheap & easy to do, for me went like clockwork. But you dont say how many of you or suitcases. When its both of us & our 3 large suitcases we have a private car return for £300 from home to home from Nottingham area - worth every penny. Might be worth your checking that idea out.

Did this a few times. Simplest:

Get taxi to Paddington (avoiding pain of tube), 10 quid.

Then get the hex (21) or the slow train (8ish, if bought in return).

If you can go direct by taxi for 40 or 50 might be good value considering. However, at that time of the morning won't the M25 be stuffed, especially around the heathrow junction which doesn't usually need a rush hour to get chocka (not gone by car for years, this might not still be true)?

King's Cross to Heathrow wouldn't involve the M25 thankfully. But getting through central London wouldn't be particularly pleasant at 8am and the A4 out via Earl's Court, Hammersmith & Chiswick can be a lottery at any time. In many cities you're ok heading against the flow at rush hour but not London.
