Apple Pay UK is now live.

Managed to get my Virgin Atlantic Amex and Visa Cards loaded :-D

HSBC was meant to be there from the start but now "coming soon" >-(

don't see the point in it
happy enough using my card & its contactless payment option

Also Barclaycard will send you a contactless sticker that will work on anything you choose to stick it on.

Something I have no interest or need in signing up for

I disagree - the amount of times I head out only to realise I have left my wallet on the side at home, now it means I can pay for things even though I don't have my wallet with me.
It's also handy for if I am going to an event or on a night out and don't want to have to have my wallet with me or maybe don't take enough cash etc.

For retailers that support it you're not limited to the £20 (soon to be £30) limit of contactless payments, that's the one really big difference to me!

I'm pretty sure that's what people said about cars, television and the internet!

Technology moves on. Not everyone will embrace it, which is fine, but this is yet more progress that means, increasingly, there's no need to carry cash or even a card.

Especially if it can be used to spend more than £20 which is a big (although understandable) limitation of contactless.

If a retailer supports the full Apple Pay system, they can set any limit they want for the transaction amount.

If the retailer doesn't support Apple pay but accepts contactless (currently Co-Op for example), then the £20 / £30 spend limit will still be in place.

Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco have all confirmed they are upgrading their C&P card terminals to contactless this year.

Anyone not actually getting the VS AmEX card logo though on screen when adding your VS card? Mine just comes up as 'Rewards+ MBNA'. My Nationwide debit and proper AmEx card logos both match the physical card design.

Just used it in my local Co-Op store with my linked Nationwide debit card and it works well.

Yes same here. I guess because the VS cards are just re-skinned MBNA cards.

With my BA Amex, which is my registered card with iTunes, it shows my recent transaction history which is useful.

Yes, my Nationwide Debit card shows the recent ApplePay transactions only on screen and my non-VS AmEx card shows all recent transactions, ApplePay or not.

Just had a Tweet from MBNA and apparently they are working with VS on the correct card logo.

yes... start paying with something that takes up about the same space as 40 plastic cards.

I take the trinity everywhere. keys, wallet, phone. I am more scared of losing my phone than wallet. I don't carry cash, unless I need it. I use my card everywhere (miles!)
I personally not a fan of these quick debit things.
Probably quicker for me to put my card in the machine & enter my pin, rather than dig out my phone, unlock it with a pin, load the app & press my finger to authorise.
To much hassle.

Each to their own, and there certainly isn't any requirement to use it, but the fact there are more and more retailers upgrading to contactless readers would indicate it is a popular functionality that is being used a lot.

Just for info, you don't have to unlock your phone and load an app, just present your phone to the contactless payment machine and hold your finger on the phones fingerprint reader, it is very quick and easy. If you happen to have the Apple Watch it's even easier too!

sounds great.
I know this will bore some but back in 2007 i saw people in tokyo using their phone as an oyster card and japanese mobiles back then could already do contactless payments. now you can even use your oyster in tokyo to pay for things in shops in and around stations and even taxis.
Im glad though that the west is slowly catching up. Though for my part as an android user how do i tap and pay? does anyone know what app you need?
found out there is an EE one but you need to upgrade your sim. Will contact them tomorrow.

Google is coming out with 'Android Pay' and Samsung will have 'Samsung Pay'. Will only work with NFC compatible devices though.
Samsung Pay on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will also work with old swipe terminals if contactless isn't available.

I've registered my VS Amex and another Amex but whether I'll use this service or not is another matter.

I've read comments elsewhere about its use in U.S. and the current contactless methods in the U.S. Certainly they haven't adopted chip & pin over there, I always had to swipe and then sign, and my signature was never openly checked. I went into Macy's and the sales assistant saw my Amex had the contactless sign and virtually snatched the card from me to try a contactless payment but of course it was instantly declined as it was well over the £20 limit we have here, but obviously don't have there.

Anyway, back on topic, let's see if it's adopted by the British public and retailers, banks etc.

You may well already have an NFC enabled SIM card as EE have been issuing these for some time now, even for iPhones an iPads that don't need them (look for a 'N' symbol on your SIM card). More details about EE's 'Cash on Tap' system, including the slightly limited handset compatibility can be found here (their website is currently down for over-night maintenance though)

The US is moving to chip and pin now, somewhat late to the party!

Feel sorry for retailers having to upgrade their devices though.
ApplePay, GooglePay, Samsung Pay, no doubt Paypal wont be far behind.

Where does it end?

I think Macedonia (might be another ex communist state) are miles ahead of us in using your mobile to pay for things.
Until it gets to a point where I only need the one device, I just find it a little pointless (& I am usually one of the first to adopt new things!). I already use keyring app for the amount of reward cards I collect! Now if only there was a way to have your passport & driving licence as an app

Given what Apple Music did to my music collection I won't rush to use Apple Pay.

I trust Google more.

Thanks James

I have been on the email to EE and they are sending me a new SIM, apparently mine wasnt a compatible one :-(

I tried to use Apple Pay yesterday using my apple watch and it wouldn't accept it - had to use the card instead.

Today i tried it again using the apple watch and it accepted the payment then the terminal said card security check, please insert card.

Looks like a few teething problems but apart from having to twist my wrist nearly 180 degrees to go against the card machine which was fixed o the counter , i like the idea. :-D

Well, to each his own, but I would rather start using Apple Pay 6 months from now when all the possible (and unforeseen) kinks have been sorted out.

Here's an excerpt from the article by TFL today: Transport for London has warned people using Apple Pay on London's transport network to use the system properly or risk being overcharged for their journey.People touching in with an Apple Watch and out with an iPhone linked to the same Apple Pay account are being charged a maximum fare. This issue, which TfL describes as "card clash" is a result of how Apple Pay works.

I'd rather use my good ol contactless card rather.

TfL have written a little guide on how to use Apple Pay on it's services, I presume this is where Wired got the information from, apart from what Wired describe isn't what TfL call card-clash!

I'm with you on that, plus I'd rather wait until things are up and running and I'm sure about the security of it all if you loose your phone - I've handed in 2 iPhones & 1 Android to various shops and restaurants since Christmas :-O !!
