Hey everyone,

We're planning on returning to SFO next year as there's still stuff we want to do, and also looking at having some time in LAS too. I'm thinking June as the temperatures in LAS will be bearable for us, but any later and it won't.

Been searching for Gs into & out of SFO, LAS, LAX but very few reward seats of any kind let alone Gs! We're looking at approx 2 weeks and are very flexible. However, I've got some great deals coming up on ex-DUB to SFO or LAS. We'll probably fly in / out of SFO and then hop down LAS using VX.

Here's my question for those who like LAS, how many days / nights would you advise we give to LAS? We like shows and sightseeing, maybe a bit of slot machine fun. I was thinking 5 nights, would anyone suggest more?

Cheers

Good Luck with grabbing those elusive G's!! With the rise of the ex-EU ethos, I would think that they will be even harder to find :-(

As for Las Vegas, I have been there more than my fair share of times over the years (something I blame V Flyer for ;-) ) and whilst there is a myriad of places to stay, i have found that by arriving early in the week and leaving before the weekend will get you the best prices.

The only caveat being during the big conventions, all rooms are at a premium

Good Luck with your planning

Hi Bretty,

Think June could still be very, very hot well into 100's end of May its still well in the 80/90's.

Five nights is four full days if you have never been its enough to have a good look round to see what you think of the place. There are obviously no end of shows which other V-flyers can tell you where to get the best tickets. Everyone is trying to sell you while you are there and there are booths all over the place for tickets on the night. Nearer the time go onto Vegas.com it lists all the shows and prices and when they are dark(closed) nights.

So if there is something you specifically want to see its best to book through say ticketmaster, they are by no means cheap say for £100 at least per person for good shows, so you are not at the back the auditoriums are huge. Go onto lowcostusa and then compare direct and Virgin and do not forget most do not add on resort fees, for hotel rooms.

There is lots more but I won't waffle on anymore, you will have plenty of time to plan. Regards Linda

I think 5 is the max, personally my limit is 4 nights. Vegas is very full on and fun, but I'm usually ready to move on after 4 nights of 'Vegas fun'

quite hard to give advice.
Ive driven from SF to LA & enjoyed the scenic route, with a nightover at Monterray - they have the World Famous Aquarium there, as well a scenic 30 mile drive which ends at Pebble beach golf course. Dunno if that is something you're interested in or not (its about a 11 hour drive all in).

As for Vegas, it really depends on what you want.
You can see the strip in a day, you can go to old vegas (with the cowboy, etc.) in another evening, Do you want to go to the Grand Canyon &/or Hoover Dam? thats another day. Throw in a nice steak dinner, a show & some late night drinks, there can be another day (well, evening & following recovery morning!).

Also, your gambling style may be worth taking into consideration. 4 days can be a long time if you blow your bankroll in 1 night!

Also.. check for any big events in Vegas that could push up the prices for everything... as it is all supply & demand. Especially if there is a big boxing bout.

I'm happy to stay there 7 days + :) Always :). June will be warm ( aka hot). I don't really gamble ( I'm too mean :)) but quite happy to go shopping, lol by the pool , relax etc...
How about combining Vegas with Palm Springs ( which is just lovely) ?

Thanks for replies everyone, food for thought and confirms my thinking of time to give it.
Eggtastico: my dear husband has vetoed the idea of hiring a car to drive anywhere, I am forbidden! Says he wouldn't relax driving in "foreign country", so that's out. Not worth pushing the issue! We can do a day trip from SFO to Monterey though I think.

I understand June will be hot, checking the average temps I think we could cope but I'm looking at end of May too. I need to avoid school holidays because I can't get cover at work during those times, which suits me.

DL: I think I'll save Palm Springs for another time and we really want to see SFO again.

Thanks again all :)

I agree with Neil. 4 nights is plenty long enough for me and I plan a short trip so I can stay in one of the better hotels rather than a longer trip and spending less per night on accommodation. It will be hot in June so having a great room to relax in and a hotel with first class facilities is right up there in my list of requirements. I am not a gambler so my money is spent on great food and a show - all easily achievable with 4 nights.

have a great time ! you will go back ....
