Hey all,

I have to get 1TP to get my gold status.

i'll be flying to HKG at the end of October, but am tempted to do a quick trip back and forth to EDI to get me the tier points and take me over the line.

Any additional thoughts before I spend Saturday morning going to EDI and back? :D

If you want Au to get Clubhouse access before your HKG flight, go for it.

If you'd get Clubhouse access anyway because you're in UC, and the HKG flight gets you to Au anyway, what's the point?

How certain is the HK trip?

If it might get cancelled then do the EDI TP run because if you wait for Oct then that option will be gone when Little Red stop operating at the end of Sept.

If HK is a certainty and you already have Clubhouse access by virtue of your ticket class then forget it, save your money for a treatment in the spa :P

If you have the time to go to EDI I would do it because once Gold you will get double miles on your HKG trip which is an extra 6000 each way.

But they will be gold for the return anyway. So bumps up the miles one way only, so OP would need to think if it's worth the time and money.

agree. You can buy 6000 for £60 but I would also add a value on the club access and fast track at LHR.

Ended up doing it and meeting a friend I hadn't seen for a while for coffee in EDI anyway, so not a wasted trip :)

Now looking at the HKG journey, although tempted to use Emirates again even with the layover.. cheaper, A380, good service. Decisions decisions :)

Your trip to EDI would have been in vain if you do not plan to actually use the AU status now ?
HKG route now uses the 787 and I can't believe there is such a difference between economy on 787 and 380. Econ is Econ.
VS service is always great but for me the clincher would be the non stop route. Leave at night, sleep, wake up - you are there.
Don't forget your miles and TP with VS - which was where the discussion started !

I should have clarrified, I'll probably be taking Emirates Business or Virgin PE/ Upper (depending on pricing).

Emirates is a shade over £2k, Virgin £2.2k

I'll likely be using the Au for my trips back and forth to SFO for work (they don't pay for Upper unfortunately!!)
