I am flying from Manchester to Tampa, with a connection in Atlanta. Can i check my bags through to Tampa?
Does that mean i don't have to collect my bags in Atlanta after going through security and recheck them again?
I normally do direct from Manchester to Orlando, so not sure how it works with a connection on a different airline.
Thanks for all your help.

You can have the bags checked through to Tampa yes, which means they'd have the connection printed on the labels. However, you would still need to collect and recheck them at ATL. There's no way around this as this will always be the case when connecting in the US from an international flight. It's not a tricky thing to do though, once you go through immigration you come to the baggage area, grab your bags, go through customs, and then immediately after is a Delta bag drop desk for you to check your stuff through to TPA. :)

On your way back you won't need to do this, they'll send your stuff straight back to MAN.

Sorry me gain. Just to clarify, once i go through immigration i collect my bag, go through customs, then drop my bag off right outside customs? Do i then just go straight to my gate to Tampa via the domestic terminal on the traincar? Do i have to go through security again ie line up, take off my shoes, walk through the scanner? Sorry for the confusion, thanks for your help.

Once through customs in ATL you turn left and drop your bag on the transfer belt, you then go through TSA security (where you take shoes off) and then proceed to the domestic gate (usually A or B gates) on the plane train.

as above for the connection

btw if you want to get duty free in uk, you can now take it through the security check at ATL as long as it is sealed in the tamper evident bag at the point of purchase, it may add a couple of minutes while they inspect/swab at the ATL check

note the "transparent containers" comment, not sure what happens if it's boxed, but my plain bottle of tawny port got through ok :)

or you can move it to your checked baggage before leaving the ATL baggage hall, probably the better option for perfumes etc.

Transparent means the outer sealed bag the goods go in rather than any container the goods might already be in - like a box.

As long as they can see the contents of the bag the CBP and TSA will be OK.

Just do not break the seal!
