I have been using the White VA cards for about 18 months now, and got the 2 PE upgrades this year from our spend. I recently had a guy from the FC trying to persuade me to take out the Black cards, on the basis that the £140 is easily recouped from the miles (which is probably correct), and he claimed, with our level of spend, we could get the PE upgrades on both white and black Amex, so 4 upgrades in total.

I was sure that I'd read somewhere that you could only get 2 upgrades in total, regardless of spend, but I can't now find where I read that! It also struck me that it wouldn't be so useful for building miles if I continued to use the white card when I had the black!

Does anyone out there know how this works? Cheers

APR on the black is calculated different to that of white.
So be aware! Especially if you do not clear your balance.

Also AFAIK the white & black are independent of each other, so you should be able to claim 2 PE tickets on each.

Virgin Black card has a bonus of 32,000 miles now if you apply before 27th Oct.

If I were you I'd stop using the White card (but keep it open) and apply for the black.

Spend all on that for the 1 year and if you are heavy spenders you will get the 2 PE vouchers.

As has been said both cards are treated separately so you will end up with 4 upgrade vouchers.

It depends on a couple of things.
Do you want to fly PE or Upper?
How many times a year do you fly?

For me with one major annual holiday it pays me to use the black card all year round. I make more miles than the £140 fee would buy me, which with other collecting schemes easily gives me the miles to upgrade my one flight to Upper.
It does mean I have to pay for an Economy ticket, but even using the vouchers to upgrade a reward seat to PE you are still paying quite a bit of tax. I still get the PE upgrade vouchers but doubt I'll ever use them.
I have the White cards but only a couple of very small payments that were set up before I went black go out on them.

Thanks for the responses.

We are more than happy with PE if we are only paying taxes etc. We will probably only want to fly once a year, but it will be peak time, and there are 4 of us.

We've spent this year's upgrades on flights to Orlando next year for just myself and my daughter, but it would be 4 of us the following year.

I do pay it all off each time, so not so concerned about the APR, so it probably makes sense to do it.
