Can you check your bags at LHR if flying EX-EU?

Planning to fly hand-baggage only to AMS and back again and then to collect our luggage and check-in for our flight from London later in the afternoon.

Can that be done or will our baggage have to be checked in at AMS and checked right through to our final destination?

Yes you can check it in at LHR.

Yep, no problem. We did that a month ago through DTCI. No questions asked.

I was one of the early users of the ex-EU trip flying from AMS. OK, so my flight to AMS originated in Cork, I requested and was allowed to check my case only to LHR so that I could re-check in LHR. The lady in AMS looked at me as if I had two heads but I wasn't entirely confident that my case would end up in the UC bin, hence my request.

A word of warning - if you are on an early morning flight from AMS on BA in Club Europe and they offer you a cooked breakfast, don't take it. I did and was violently sick on the on-going flight to SFO.
