That's it - the beginning of the end (possibly). I've just had a quick look on my plane finder app, and discovered that todays VS19 is Lady Luck (A340), rather than the usual 747. I know they are phasing them out as my flight next May is on the A340, but I'm surprised it's already happening (unless another 747 has gone tech!!)
The last 747 to SFO is at the end of October
I wonder now the JNB route is being served by the 787 if the freed up A340s will be used more on other routes including those with the 747s being phased out.
Appears that VS9 has switched over from the B744 to the A346 as of a couple of days ago as well— Was looking forward to my last flight on a VS 744 on Friday, but looks like I'm out of luck.

Today's (27Oct) was also a 340 for VS19. Has been planned at least for a week or two, as that's when I chose my seat.

My VS9 at the end of Nov and VS10 at the beginning of Dec are still showing as B744s in MMB.
I'll be checking regularly in case that changes but fingers crossed it doesn't.
I wound up on VS9 last night on a 744 (VBIG), and the FSM said the plane was being taken out of service tomorrow. Seems like the end is getting near!

The last 3 LHR 747s (BIG ROC and HOT) are leaving LHR in January. G-VROC will then go to LGW for a few months to operate some BGI flights while G-VBIG goes away to be refitted into LGW config with new ife and seats. G-VHOT will follow FAB to the desert
