I flew on the VS400 to Dubai last night and there was a new UC amenity kit made by Herschel. It is a two compartment travel wash kit. This is new since my last flight on Boxing Day.

The kit contains the same purple toothbrush and pen as the previous kit, together with the heel-less socks, lip balm and ear plugs. But it has a larger toothpaste - the same size as other airlines, rather than the micro tube of late - and a small hand cream and small face cream.

All in all a nice improvement on the previous kit.

must be able to afford something better to give now they are coining it in on the 'fuel surcharge' when oil is heading $30 a barrel.

Both Virgin and BA have scrapped the Fuel Surcharge, they now have a "Carrier Imposed Surcharge"

Looks reasonable quality, and the creams are a welcome addition, plus the pack looks like it will be useful too. Better than what was on my last flights at Christmas.

Same as the energy companies - very quick to crank prices up when oil / gas / coal prices rise, but much slower to reduce them when they fall. (And no, I'm not having a pop at them - I used to work for one of the big 6 energy companies).

That said, the new amenity kit does look like a decent improvement. Wasn't it about 10 years ago that the infamous "scrooge pack" amenity kit was rolled out? (Am sure it was as my first UC flight was in 2006). If so, looks like things are slowly improving - 10 years down the line. But then we do have the other "enhancements" to consider, like the lack of Lanson & the awful Garden Brut champagne. No T10 any more. Crappy cardboard place-mat thingy on the afternoon tea service etc.

Upper Class is still a good product, but there are lots of - mainly low-cost - things Virgin could do to tweak the experience back towards what it once was. And as above, with oil prices so low & the "carrier imposed surcharge" still in place, they cannot cry the high fuel bills card.

That's not the kit I got on the LHR-JFK I did on new years day.

I'll post a pic after I dig it out of the charity shop bag where it's next to the awful BA kit!

Very nice but I'll still bring my travel Elemis onboard.

Certainly looks like an improvement, no where near as good as the Oswald Botang kits of years ago, I always
used to take those home

Wow a definite improvement and nothing like the kits that I picked up in December and earlier this month.

Fingers crossed they roll them out across the fleet in time for my Feb flights. My amenity kit box could use a new addition or two ;-)

A very welcome improvement, since I always felt that the UC amenity kits (especially the contents) were a bit of a let down. Nice to have some branded products as well

This was the kit I was given in UC on the VS9 (LHR - JFK) on the 1st Jan

As you can see it's a sort of 'clutch purse' design

Contents - socks / eye mask / toothbrush / toothpaste / tissues / ear plugs / mints / lip balm / crappy pen but branded with the VS logo

This was the BA kit I got on the return

Shoe bag but not as good as the old VS one.

Contents - socks / eye mask / toothbrush / toothpaste / ear plugs / hand & body lotion / skin cream (both Elemis) and even crappier pen than the VS one!

Does anyone know if the plan is to roll-out this new Herschel offering across the entire fleet on all routes?

The one I posted a picture of was the inbound flight from EWR. Same contents as the outbound.

About time they upgraded it ... the previous amenity kit was a joke and very embarrassing for a premium cabin. Nice to see some face and hand creams.

Same contents as the outbound to Dubai above. It's a travel wallet about 6"x8" in size. Again a nice improvement on previous kits.

Wow another new one.... EK are doing the same thing at the moment actually. I was told by one of the pursers that the frequent fliers were finding themselves with entire crates of the things and they wanted a bit of variety in their amenity kit... as good a reason as any.
