So, i need to get to Toronto, im looking at flights with Virgin as i can get on the dreamliner to New York and they offer a transfer to Tornoto on another airline to complete the journey. Now here is the issue, i would like to book a companion flight for the new york part of the trip but obviously you cant on the last leg... if i phone VA is this possible or do i have to book the NY and other flight seperaetly to get use of the companion option? obviously i would rather not do this in case of delays....

you should be able to book through to toronto I would have thought & this would include tickets for companion.
Have you checked the companion prices yet? You might want to sit down when they give them to you.

Not sure Eggtastico is correct there - the companion needs to be booked into a reward seat, which aren't available for the connections. At least, for any flight that involves a connection the "Spend your Miles" option is disabled.

I think booking the separate trip to Toronto may be your best (and possibly only option) here if you want to utilise a companion ticket. As far as the fares go - what cabin were you looking to travel in? Economy and PE are your most viable options as UC requires booking a full fare which are very expensive.
