Hi all,

I have been looking at booking our honeymoon with VH as it works out cheaper than booking things separately. Tweeted VH/VS and they say that if I call during the booking and check that the ticket is the right class, then I can book economy tickets and then upgrade them by calling VH and using miles.

It's not that I distrust the Twitter team, but I know a lot of you guys actually probably know more than those working there!

So my question is: Is this correct? I can book an economy seat holiday and then upgrade seats using miles by calling VH and doing it with/through them?

Cheers!

*I deleted my previous post as I was very wrong.. Apologies, my fare knowledge is a bit rusty.*

Yep this is perfectly fine to do, my only advice would be to confirm that the reward seats are available in the cabin you want to upgrade into before spending out on an upgradeable fare bucket.

Congratulations, hope you enjoy the honeymoon.

Also, if you book through Virgin Holidays, you CAN use miles to book a reward ticket, BUT ONLY after your tickets have been issued by Virgin Atlantic, which will only be after the full cost of the package has been paid.
I fell foul of this a couple of weeks ago when a couple of upper class rewards became available about 11.30pm. I got straight onto Flying club, who were great, but couldn't do anything as Virgin Atlantic had not been paid for my flights Virgin Holidays :-(

I have to amend your statement slightly. It's not the cost of the full package but rather the cost of the flights.
I booked a holiday in February and only had to pay the cost of the flights before VH would allow the tickets to be issued. Once they are issued and you do an upgrade if you need to make changes it becomes a complete nightmare as neither VH nor VS claim to have control of the tickets. Oh... And don't expect the tickets to be issued same day. It takes up to three days once you've paid enough and i pretty much had to beg them to do it. I initially lost the reward seats I wanted because of this, but i was bumped to an earlier flight later and managed to nab the upgrades.

Our experience was quite different to the two posts above. We booked by actually going to VH in our local mall rather than by phone/online. Talked to them about upgrading. VH phoned FC, confirmed UC rewards were available and they were booked immediately by the VH staff as part of the VH booking process.
