Our first trip to South Africa coming up in September - can't wait!
We have a long layover in JNB on the way home, between arriving on our little plane from Safari and the departure of the VS602, about 6.5 hrs.
Can anybody tell me, from experience how soon check in is likely to open for the VS602 and even if we can get to it early is the Clubhouse going to offer enough to entertain us for such a long time? Struggling to find any info or pictures of the JNB Clubhouse really.
Alternatively, can anybody recommend anything/anywhere to do/go the occupy us for the afternoon?

Any insight greatly appreciated as always :)

Thanks folks!

Hi Nick
Check in will open about 4 hours before departure. Clubhouse probably the same but
it has always been open at around 17:00 when I get there from my ex Durban flight....probably to allow access for pax on a through ticket who have been able to check in before arriving at the airport.
You'll find the Clubhouse wait staff extremely polite and will take care of your every need...including a superb Mojito. There are usually only 2 staff on the door and 2 wait staff. Stanford is the man,..top notch service and always welcomes me back....he welcomes everyone back ..... even if it's their first time :-D A Great guy who makes this cosy Clubhouse really special.

Can't really recommend anywhere to while away the the time as Clubhouse has been my only haunt :)...After the usual tour of trinket shopping... Who needs anywhere else?

Hope this helps and enjoy Africa and all it has to offer.
Paul

Edited to add picture link and amend CH opening time.

Thanks for all the info!
I guess we'll chill out with a coffee or find some lunch in the airport for a while before we can get into the Clubhouse.

Hi Nick,

Most of the 'standard' half day tours run in the mornings but there are companies, like Mashaba below, who do fixed tours, customised tours and airport pickup/drop-off - if you check the link below there's even a paragraph describing exactly your 'opportunity'. Friends from Belgium used Mashaba for the standard full day Soweto and Jo'burg City tour a couple of yerars ago and were very pleased with it.

"Time to kill in between flights? We will meet you off your inbound flight and take you to explore what Joburg and Gauteng has to offer, whether it’s sightseeing, shopping or just getting a feel for the city and its suburbs. Then we’ll drive you back to the airport in time for the check-in on your onward flight."

Cheers,
Tim

Perfect!
Thanks very much, that sounds ideal - Will get in touch with those guys to see what they might have on offer.

Thanks again for the tips!
