LHR Baggage Issues

Just received a text from Virgin:

Code: Select allSorry to advise that due to a baggage system issue at Heathrow your hold bags may not be carried on your flight and may arrive several days late.
We strongly recommend you limit yourself to hand luggage. If not possible we recommend that you carry enough essential items to cover your needs on arrival.

My folks are on the LHR-BOS (once a day service) tomorrow (7/21) - my dairy milk chocolate will melt!

Unfortunately, Heathrow Airport is experiencing an issue with their baggage sorting system which has affected a number of airlines and the ability to check bags in. This has resulted in many bags being delayed leaving London Heathrow.

We would advise customers to ensure any essential items to cover their needs on arrival, including any medication, are packed into their hand luggage. If there is an option for customers to not travel with checked in luggage this may be preferable. If bags do not make the flight we will ensure they are sent out as soon as possible but this may take several days. Any customers who are without their bags on arrival, need to complete a Property Irregularity Report before they leave the airport, as we will use this information to get the bags sent to the appropriate address.

If bags do not arrive we understand that customers may need to buy some essential items. Please keep hold of receipts, and refer to our website for full details on how to make a claim for these purchases. The bulk of this evenings VS flights seem to have been delayed by at least a couple of hours due to these issues.

News this morning is that it is all sorted.
