Is this like the LHR-HND route that was "revealed" on this forum about a year ago and was all but guaranteed? :P
Just announced that VS are dropping the ORD route from next year:
We need to let you know that we will be suspending our seasonal London Heathrow – Chicago O’Hare service from Summer 2017 (01 May).

Ah. Shame, though I can't honestly say I'm too surprised. It always seemed something of a half-arsed commitment to have a summer service to a destination very well served by AA/UA. I've never been on a VS39 with particularly high loads either. It's better served elsewhere in my opinion.
It's a shame regarding Chicago, but I never found the summer route particularly useful as most of our business in Chicago is in March, so we had to connect in Atlanta or similar in order to get there.
That's the 3rd time ORD has been canned. Probably no chance of a resurrection this time.
Huzzah for International Jet-setting !
That's where the 3rd LAX a lot came from.
While a shame to see a route closed, it's a quick hop from JFK on Delta or JetBlue.

I'm very sad to see ORD go, a route I've used a lot but like others the loads have varied widely albeit on many of my trips the premium cabins have been full. I thought the third LAX came from DL giving up one of their flights? It'd be great to see Japan come back and another option east, but I strongly suspect the next news will be US centric once more ... which one though?
There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles

Is that the news Richie??

MSP and SLC have been bouncing around for ages. MSP is my favourite as the A330's get their checks done there at the Delta facility.

The other more boring news is the VS119/120 switch to Saturday from Sunday Oct next year
You can only hope for another route [or two] from MAN so that when the T2 expansion work happens in a few years we finally get a ClubHouse for the "Northern Clientele"!
In theory, there should be enough pax to make one viable at MAN with the expanded VS + DL offering, plus select selling of capacity at low-VS/DL demand times to other airlines (typically lunchtime onwards as a guess).

Fingers crossed for a completely new route

Presumably cancelling the ORD is what releases the aircraft for the Manchester BOS/SFO expansion?

ORD was a hard one to sustain all year round, especially going up against BA hub at this end and AA/UA hubs at the other end. No DL help at ORD.
While corporate and Upper Class demand was there all year, tough to do corporate contracts for seasonal schedules; couldn't do winter as back of the plane tough to fill.
Not surprising, a smart decision.

I have a return flight to Chicago booked for the end of may. I used one of my credit card premium economy upgrade vouchers for the return leg too.
What will happen with my booking now that they have cancelled this route?

If VS haven't contacted you already about it, get in touch with them.
You will likely be given the option of rebooking, either on an indirect route with VS/DL or into an equivalent cabin on another airline. Or you can cancel entirely and receive a full refund, including your voucher.
