Domestic Delta - Baggage allowance for VS status

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at booking MIA to NYC one way domestic flight (am flying VS on the transatlantic routes to MIA and from NYC.) The route has loads of flights each day, dominated by AA, DL and UA!

My question is, on a domestic flight (which is not a connection to a transatlantic flight), what does VS status get you regarding baggage with delta - if anything? (This will help me make a decision whether to pay a little more to fly DL!

I’ve seen on delta.com that DL silver and gold members get free domestic checked baggage, but I can’t find whether they would extend this to VS status? (I know virgin America used to honour it even on domestic flights!)

Any help or experience much appreciated!

Thanks SJ - if I don’t get another flight in by then, I may have dropped down to silver - can’t see any benefits for Ag but I could be wrong?

Yeah I don't believe Silver members have any reciprocal benefits I'm afraid!

Someone did point out on here a bit ago that the VS app still shows their AG status with VS as still having 'Sky Priority' on the overview page like it does for AU VS members.

I'm VS AU here (well until May anyway) so cannot check myself.

Not sure if that is a mistake or what it actually offers you with DL though?

An ever-so-slight hijack of the original question if I might crave some indulgence! I am due to fly from BOS-MCO in May on DL metal, and am under the impression that I am entitled to VS baggage allowance for the trip as the flight was booked as part of a multi-city deal through VS and is showing as VS 3095. Hopefully some kind person can confirm this. Many thanks.

Yes, the VS baggage allowance is the one to follow as VS are the MSC (most significant carrier) i.e. they are the marketing airline as it is VS who issued and sold you your ticket with all flight legs having a VS flight number.

More details can be found here and as with any other airline rule, it sounds way more complicated that is actually is!
