Flying LHR-DXB, DXB-LHR soon and I noticed today's VS401 went MX and was cancelled. Apparently this was the maiden Dreamliner flight out of DXB, the aircraft I'm scheduled to be on.

In an outstation like DXB where VS has only 1 flight a day, will they interline passengers to BA or EK in case of an aircraft going mechanical or are we SOL and have to try the next day?

And if they can interline but can't place us in the same class of service - Upper in my case - what would be the compensation in the case of a downgrade?

Yes, when my Las Vegas to Gatwick flight was delayed by 24 hours due to a lightning strike a couple of years ago I managed to get put on the BA flight. Only a handful of us were though, as it was already almost full, so most people had to be bussed to a hotel for the night.

Was that a completely free G class ticket - i.e. VS pick up the tab for the taxes/fees/charges? If so, not too bad an offer - especially if you don't normally sleep much on a plane, so the lack of the UC seat/bed is no big thing.

Was this downgrade as a result of a VS flight cancellation and you were interlined to another carrier in PE?

Under EC261/2004, in the event of an involuntary downgrade you are entitled to a refund of 75% of the fare for the affected leg, whether you paid in cash or miles.

If you volunteer to be downgraded or offloaded you’ll doubtless be offered compensation - with VS usually in the form of free flight vouchers - however you paid for the ticket but it’s a goodwill gesture, not a right.
