Hey!

Looking to upgrade myself and wife on a flight to SFO next year (Not booked yet, just figuring out the best way to use my miles).

The wife doesnt have her own mileage account, can I upgrade both of our flights from my accout (if there availability) or does she need her own mileage account ?

Thanks :)

Also be aware, you need to have an upgradeable fare bucket.

For Economy, I *think* the only non-upgradeable bucket after the recent changes is O but I am not 100% sure on that - somebody jump in and correct me if I am wrong.

For Premium, K is not upgradeable. H is upgradeable with the difference in taxes. S and W are also upgradeable likely with minimal or no difference in taxes.

You cannot search for specific fare buckets on the website anymore. So it will require the use of another online tool or calling Virgin direct - just be very clear that you want to upgrade the cheapest way possible from the base fare.

Great thanks!

I assume K is the lowest fare and this is the default PE option when booking online?

Correct, unless you tick the ‘Flexible Fares’ box in which case it defaults to the most expensive. For anything in between, you need to call.

In the past I have found it is almost as cheap to buy the lowest PE fare than an upgradeable Economy.
With the added advantage you don't have the aggravation of trying to bag a reward seat.
If you have the miles to upgrade from Economy to Upper then I think it's worth doing, otherwise I save up until I have enough for a full reward in Upper.
