I have this vague memory from when I used to collect with the Flying Club that, upon attaining Silver, your tier points reset and a new membership year is immediately started.

In other words, from scratch, my recollection is that the cycle goes:

0-400 (Silver Attained)
(New membership year started, points reset)
0-1000 (Gold Attained)
<<Total TPs: 1400>>

I am now thinking about moving a lot of my flying from BA to VS - and I am wondering if this is still the case (or, indeed, was ever the case!). It makes a difference as to whether I renew silver this year, going for gold next year; or allow myself to drop this year and start from scratch as of next year.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum :)

The page explaining it lives here: https://www.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... oints.html

As far as I was aware, when you go up from Red -> Silver you retain your previous tier points and they are not reset, so that you can continue to pursue 1,000 for gold should you wish to (and during that time TPs are subject to a 12-month dropoff rule). I believe that TPs are only reset once your membership year expires.

Without wishing to boast it has been a long time since I went from Red->Silver so someone with more recent experience of it is better to comment!

I went from Red to Silver (for the first time) at the end of June. My tier points now show as zero with the message:

To remain a Silver member you will need to earn an additional 400 tier points by 30 June 2019

You keep the TPs for 12 or 13 months regardless. The problem is the website shows you have 0 but in fact you have your previous TPs. I went from Gold to Silver last month but I confirmed with several FC representatives that I had around 800 TPs even though the site said I was silver and had 0. They'll also tell you when you need to get your additional TPs before you start losing more. I had to get the rest by the end of August so I pushed up some first class Delta domestic flights I planned to take anyway. :)
