Taxes ex HKG ?

Long story short- I’ve upgraded Mr DL from PE to UC on his flight back home in September. He was originally in Y ( ) but I managed to shift him into PE at the time of booking with the hope something would open up in UC ( it’s a long way home from SYD and he’s getting on another flight to go somewhere else 4 hours after he lands ... ). Taxes were duly paid on the PE leg ( 330HKG) when the ticket was upgraded ( flight ex LHR -HKG was in UC)
Late tonight (miraculously ) a single G seat appeared which I pounced on only to be told the “ taxes” ( labelled as YQ) would be another £51 ( on top of the 330 HKG already paid) .The taxes ( tonight ) on the VS website run to 350 HKG in UC ( about £2 more than the 330 HKG already paid ) so I feel a bit miffed.I’ve been advised that the figure quoted ( and paid ) is correct and that the “ taxes “ have now changed ex HKG ( but the agent couldn’t tell me when this “ change “ happened).
Thoughts? ( FWIW he is happy as Larry he now has a bed to sleep in and is quite happy with £51 ! whereas I feel like I’ve been robbed .....).

Mr DL, at least, deserves to be told.

I am inclined to hit VA customer service, in the nicest possible way, to explain the 'taxes'.

Ex-HKG is, historically, inexpensive but agents taking your money must be able to tell you where this monetary extraction is published.

I'm currently 'in discussion' with Lloyd's MBNA (ex-MBNA VA AMEX) regarding their 'unpublished' rules regarding payments against a credit balance; they appear to believe that it's satisfactory to limit customers to 3 payments per month against the account balance. I'm contesting this as I like to clear my balance and it cannot be done in such a limited number of transactions. The escalation went from agent to manager, department to department and has not been resolved (although I did manage to clear the account). I suspect that, given Lloyd's past record, that my card will be rescinded in due course, as I'm not making more money for them by paying interest every month.

So, don't accept the imposition of another charge; question it and don't give up until you have a satisfactory answer / outcome.
