Evening all.

Does anyone have any experience of using ExpertFlyer with regards to upgrades on VS flights?

I know exactly which class of ticket to look out for on the website if wanting to upgrade using miles, my only query is that ExpertFlyer shows that there is almost always a different state of affairs if I were buying the ticket in a different country.

My question is based on this situation: I have an Econ. Delight (V) ticket, and I'm looking to use some miles to upgrade to a Premium (K) ticket. If a K ticket is available via the US Point of Sale but not via the UK one, could I, as a UK customer, upgrade that way?

If so, then it's worth the ExpertFlyer subscription..if not, then we can all check via the website!

Hi Nicky,

For you to upgrade to Premium there needs to be inventory in the P fare class bucket not K (which is a revenue bucket).

ExpertFlyer has a separate search tool for awards and upgrade seats and this does not distinguish between different countries of sale.

I have used their awards & upgrades tool many times with success, I also use the inventory alert feature which emails you when availability appears in the right fare class bucket. That said, a few times, I have been slow to pick up on the email notification and someone else has nabbed the seat!

I suggest you have a play with the feature and set up a few test email alerts.
