SuperNova (or not)

I gather that the first LGW 747's is due back today. Going on previous threads I think we're all sure that VPort isn't happing just yet on the LGW fleet so my question is has the first plane got SuperNova, Standard Nova or possibly the radio out of a 10 year old Vauxhall Nova (dreadfull, dreadfull car)[xx(]?

Also as we have booked to go PE to MCO in Feb '05 does anyone know if there have there been any mods up in the bubble, new seats etc.

She's back but not operating for a few more days. She has got the new Nova enhanced IFE. New style PE seats in zone B and old style PE seats upstairs plus 2.

Does that mean virgin will need to print a super nova version of the entertainment guide as well as the nova version (untill all refits are complete?)

Hi Declan thanks for the info. However, unless I'm missing something the seat map for LGW Suites is showing 42 seats not 40. Was this a typo?

Will VA be making any announcements regarding Vauxhall Super Nova?

Sorry guys but I'm getting a bit confused. So has UC got V-port or SuperNova? What about PE?

All 5 LGW 744 have Nova throughout the aircraft. These same planes will get a upgraded version of Nova asap.

As I understand it "Nova" is just a name that Virgin gave this system. Nova is made by a company named Thale, and if you look on thier website, some of thier systems are quite hi-tech.

I wonder how up gradable the present Virgin system is and of couse how much Virgin want to spent.

It sounds like the Super Nova system is just a software update and not a screen or controller (Hardware) update, at least in Y.

I think as they are adding more channels its likely to be a hardware mod as well as new software..

Interesting reading though, fascinates me how much paperwork it creates... probably took longer to spec that lot out than it has to physically re-fit the fleet! [:p]

Does anyone know if the "Super Nova" would have interactive games?

Nova currently has 7 movie channels, 1 TV channel and 14 audio, this will increase to 11 movie (including 2 dedicated kids movies) and 6 TV channels. Audio remains the same, at 14.

Sorry no games. We are however looking to return our onboard competitions once again aimed at both adults and children.

This is a SOFTWARE upgrade and not a Hardware upgrade.

I think in context media sounds better..medium sounds more psychic to me!!

See, from the sounds of things I thought it was just a software update, that is, no bigger screens or controllers, even if they add a disc drive or two, it will not be anything the customer can see in the way of hardware, but more channels is always a good thing.

One note on a different thread was that this software update is going to be done on the Gatwick fleet asap.

Does or could that mean that the fleet software update can be done at Gatwick or regular maintenance and the planes do not have to wait until they go for suites to get it [?][?]

All LGW aircraft will have the improved NOVA by December 04.

Seems 2 questions have gone unanswered on this thread.

1) Has the Nova system had to have additional disk readers to accommodate the additional channels. If not how where they accommodated into the existing system.

2) Have the IFE controllers in the new UCS suites been replaced or were the old ones re used ???

I think Super Nova was a better name!! Do they say Nova Plus or + ( like sky +)
