We are considering using twilight check in at Manchester for our Summer flights as we only live 20 mins from the airport, but I've always been a bit nervous that there are more chances of your luggage going missing?

I also wonder if there is much benefit if you are travelling UC but I can't remember what the queues were like last time for UC. The last time we flew from MCR was a couple of years ago and we were in PE, if it was the same queue for UC it took a very long time, but perhaps it wasn't?

One final question - my Son's girlfriend is booked PE whereas we are UC. She is hoping that they may take pity and upgrade her, I am sceptical, but also wondered if there was more or less chance of this happening if we checked in the night before the flight? Any experience would be very much appreciated.

You can forget “taking pity” is going to get a free upgrade! :-D

However VS is good at offering unoccupied seats in Upper for Points or Cash upgrade. When you check in, ask what the load is in Upper and if there’s spare seats try and negotiate an upgrade.

Keep an eye on reward availability in the week leading up to the flight too as if it’s a quiet flight, VS usually dump some reward availability into the booking system sometime before departure.

1) Exactly the same changes as if checking in the same day. One *possibility* is that Twilight luggage may well get loaded onto the A/C first so will come off last. In general with airline luggage it's first on last off / last on first off.

2) No benefit what so ever as I believe there are no separate desks for each cabin when using Twilight.

VS still use that silly pointless podium check-in desk for Upper Class at MAN which is not even near the luggage belts. You always have to move your luggage yourself to the bag-drop desk further along once it's been tagged >-(

3) Slim to zero at any time I'm afraid.

Thanks folks. I have to be honest that there is currently reward availability and I could upgrade her, and probably will, but I have been a bit reluctant to use my points!

Her Dad is absolutely loaded and could easily have afforded to book her into UC but said that he couldn't really see the value of it! Clearly no value to him, but leaving her on her own in PE is absolutely fine!

Will probably not bother with the twilight thing - knowing us we wouldn't be organised enough anyway!

EstelleB wrote:Sorry - quick question as I have never upgraded a £ seat with points - does it need to be a particular code? If it does where do I look to see the code? Thanks

Any fare code (apart from Economy Light) can now be upgraded using points.

We did Twilight check in at MAN last trip- no line when we arrived about 6pm, very easy, and our bags came off with other priority bags, although I think I recall premium bags came off first!
As has been posted, there is now free parking at T2 West during twilight check in. Need to obtain ticket and check-in desk will validate.
