I’m a family of 4 and go to MCO every couple of years, last went in May using reward seats. We currently have something like 320000 points and would be looking to take our next flight in 2026.

Typically I’ve used the miles booster to invest in some points to be able to redeem them later for rewards seats, knowing that if I’m on the ball I’ll probably be able to get the seats I want for a set amount of points.

With the new system is it even worth doing this anymore for people in my situation? It’s a (relatively) “cheap” way to acquire points and keep the balance healthy but is holding a significant number of virgin points worth it now for travellers like me?

Any thoughts?

This is exactly the position we were in only the 2 of us, and we have accumulated 250,000 miles plus a reward voucher which previously would have been enough for UC seats. Looked for nest October and it came up as yes seats available but for 550,000 miles plus £2085 in taxes.

This is totally ridiculous and as in my previous posts we are exchanging miles for hotel rooms, not the best value but better than sitting there doing nothing and devaluing all the time.

We also have BA vouchers and the same amount of miles so will stick with them for the time being as at least you know if you get there early enough in the day the Club seats are there and lots of options..

I think Virgin are going down the wrong path for normal redemptions and a lot will give up or go with BA.

In July the 2 of us went to Antigua. Bought PE seats out for 70k points and used a voucher to upgrade the return to UC plus paid £1400 taxes.

Right now no PE seats one way for less than 250k or UC for under 350k. And that’s in the supposed ‘low’ season! I’ve just taken out the BA Avios Mastercard and switched my shopping to Sainsbury from Tesco. Collecting nectar points and reckon we can have enough for CW return next year and it’s a direct flight with no ‘bounce’ in Barbados. Even paying full price , BA are over £700 cheaper.

Been loyal to VA for over 20 years but this is the last straw.

Just booked a random long weekend to Boston at the end of Feb. Upper for 76,500 (Saver) plus £858. It's kind of a tier point run, but a major motivator was also just seeing a decent points redemption and grabbing it. There doesn't seem to be much point in saving them anymore - just too unpredictable.
