Hello,

First time posting, have had a Quick Look around but cannot seem to find an answer.

I am flying on VS5 Friday 9th May @ 10:45 from LHR to MIA, we currently have 4 x seats in premium, I have been tracking the seats avail in upper for the last few weeks and as of 2 days ago there were still 16 seats available for purchase.

To my surprise when I checked yesterday there was no availability on the flight to purchase at all in any cabin, it simply disappeared from the website. Also when you look on the reward seat checker it says no flights on this day.

I called Virgin Flying Club and they simply said the flight was sold out but I find this difficult to believe given the availability on the day before, could they have possibly bumped another flight to ours?

When I look on my seat map on my actual booking (see photo) I can see upper class seats and the ones that were previously unsold simply say 'This seat is unavailable for purchase right now' which differs slightly to the actual reserved ones you can see which have a small person showing as allocated.

Has anyone experienced this before and are these seats genuinely gone? Or is there a likelihood that they will be released closer to departure?

Thank you.

Yes I had this with Virgin and Delta.
Virgin - plane change and cancellation of flight (or of the second flight to then transfer people on vs117 to vs5 or vice versa)

Delta - cancellation of flight

* I have just looked now, and Virgin has removed Vs117 from schedule on that day, therefore - seats will be blocked to re protect customers from 117 onto vs5

I would just keep checking it.
Depending on how many from the other flight need to transferred over and how many seats are left open.

It could be there are still enough seats in UC. Or it maybe that even some from the cancelled flight are downgraded to PE or EC if UC is then full.

So keep checking online and if it doesn’t open up, check at airport on departure day. When you check in on app sometimes it allows you to upgrade to UC, so always check then too.

Thanks Oliver really appreciate it will let you know how we get on, if we check in for premium are we still able to upgrade at the check in desk or should we hold fire and check in at the airport?

No problem at all! You can always check in on the app/website 24 hours before and then when you arrive at the airport you can go the check in desk to see if upgrades are available. Check in at the airport is 4 hours before so I would arrive early.

Linked to this original post …. I am due to fly out and back to Miami on VS117 in a couple of weeks.
I’ve been monitoring 117 on flight radar. I notice today and for the third time within the last couple of weeks the flight has been cancelled.

Questions for anyone in the know - Do you think this is due to light loads?
Is this fairly common on this route as I’m surprised at the regularity of the cancellations.

Cancellations far out can be due to demand but never close to departure (circa -1 month). Both the outbound and inbound would have to be very light with both passengers and cargo.
