Change flight option in app

Probably a silly question… but after an unfavourable schedule change we are wanting to check feasibility of swapping to the later flight on our route.

Our booking is in UC and I’ve done a dummy booking to check availability and seats. Unsurprisingly the later flight is now considerably more than the £200 difference back when booked, shortly after flights were released. I suspect virgin will want the difference between what we’ve paid and the current price? Plus any change fees. If so it’s not worth it.

If I click the “change flight” link on the app. What actually happens? Can you browse, review and then just leave things as they are? I’m worried I’ll screw up the existing booking if I click.

It won’t mess anything up until you commit to the flight change at the very final stage. There’s always the option to go back / leave the change process at every stage.

I know you can now make flight changes via the website which VS have been refining over the last few weeks as it’s much smoother process now; but not sure about the app as all I see in the app for all my bookings is just a ‘need to cancel’ option?

If you have ever used the Delta change flight system, the VS system works exactly the same way. Once you start the flight change process; your original fare cost becomes a virtual flight credit amount and so once you commit to the new flights at the final stage your existing fares gets canceled and you then just pay any difference (including fare change fees) or if it’s less any difference stays as a credit amount for future use.

Here's an example of what you see when I click change on one of my bookings (the only thing I've done is mask the credit value):

If you click the <My booking at the top left, you get taken back to your original booking. As my booking is a Z/I LHR>JFK>FLL return booking, the change fee will be added at the final stage on top of any shown fare difference.

For reward booking changes, I still get the 'please contact us' when click the change flight link.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post that. I clicked with confidence! As I thought… we won’t be changing. Only higher fare buckets available now and it’s stupidly expensive to change. Ah well first world problems.
