CUNNING PLAN TO UPGRADE??

Hubby and I are flying to Sydney in Nov 2006. I want to purchase Economy seats, then upgrade to UC with miles, I believe its 120,000 miles each for the upgrade. My question is I have a "companion free" voucher which I obtained through Virgin CC as I spent over £15k in one year.
Could I possibly use my companion free voucher for hubby, plus purchase a full economy fare for myself, then upgrade both with our miles??? Phew!!!

Sadly not. The companion fare can't be upgraded with miles.

If you do a forum search on 'companion ticket' there are lots of threads about this. AFIAK upgrading companion tickets with miles isn't possible, but I am sure if this is wrong, someone will correct it.
