To be honest, there are only three decent ones I know. (And I have "issues" with Montreal, despite the amount of time I spend there).
1) Sheraton Centre-Ville. ("Le Centre Sheraton")
Pricey, but often have good offers on (ie: 3 nights for CAD$179/night at the moment). No real "bar" atmosphere other than the lounge, but near to Cresent Street which has a bit of life. Decent rooms, expensive Internet, nice beds. Service is OK. Great views of the city. Funky swimming pool on one of the upper floors in its own little conservatory.
2) Marriott.
Nice rooms, a bit further out of "downtown" - nearer to the Old Town Montreal (ie: the French part), but a nice little "mini-mall" on the ground floor and good fitness center. The beds were OK, but nothing special. Good views of the city. Can be pricier than when the Sheraton have an offer on, but on average a little cheaper.
3) InterContinental.
Actually, it's your standard IC. Top bit of town (up the hill from both the Marriot and Sheraton), but in a decent enough location - tiny walk to where the activity is. Nothing special about the rooms, standard IC prices.
For my money, I'd go with the Sheraton if they had an offer on - if not, then the Marriott. Word of warning - steer VERY clear of both the Le Meridien (old) and the Crowne Plaza "downtown" - downtown my a***.... [:I]
PM me if you want more detail on the options there. Happy to go through things in a lot more detail.
