I booked this hotel having read there was a lot of construction around the beach hotels and in any case I am not really a beach person. It was great! [y] The hotel itself was small with 14 floors and no more than 12 rooms on each floor and a rooftop swimming pool. It was all chrome, glass and black marble and looked very stylish. Our room was lovely. One wall was just ceiling to floor windows with a view over Dubai Creek and the dhow wharfage. Clever use of mirrors made it light and airy and the bathroom had the glass, chrome and black marble theme with a great walk-in shower. I’ve stayed in hotels where the bedroom has been smaller than this bathroom. [:0] Our room was at the end of the corridor and so was very quiet (except on the last night when the lady in the next room was obviously enjoying herself immensely [:w][:I])
The staff were terrific and for the most part called us by name. The concierge even remembered Aer John’s golf handicap when we went to book extra golf. [oo] The supervisor in the Issimo bar was also very friendly and helpful and gave many tips for trips and places to visit. As for the guy who looked after our room (I can’t really call him a chambermaid, can I?), well he gave the impression that there was nothing more he wanted to do in life but to look after us and our room. As we had arrived from a night flight I had not expected our room to be ready and we were invited to go to the pool area and they would send for us when it was. The views up there were spectacular and I went to get my camera only to find them bringing the luggage up to the room. We both showered to freshen ourselves up and there were only two bath towels – the largest I have ever seen in an hotel. I was afraid there would be none for the morning but I need not have worried. Any time they were used, when we returned to our room they had been replaced – even if we showered in the middle of the day. In the evening as part of the turndown service an aromatherapy burner was lit on the side of the bathtub. [8D]
Breakfast was served in the Glasshouse across from Verre (they use the same kitchens as do room service) and there was a choice of a cold buffet or a hot breakfast. What surprised me was the ready availability of bacon and pork dishes but these were clearly marked. The room service menu was also available at the poolside and in the Issimo bar and had a good variety of dishes. The bar has an extensive cocktail menu as well as a variety of other drinks but because we were there from Sunday till Wednesday night it was rather quiet.
The hotel ran a shuttle service twice a day to the Hilton Jumeira Beach and also every day to a different shopping mall. I went to the Jumeira Beach Hilton and found it to be more of a resort hotel. The pool area was downstairs and there were gardens leading down to the beach with loungers laid out there and also on the beach area. It was very busy and there were mainly families staying there. The lobby was huge with a bedouin style tent at one end. It had two or three different dining areas as well as the pool bar and different theme nights. Although it was more geared towards the holiday maker than Dubai Creek I also felt it was a lot less personal and I was pleased with my choice of hotel [y][y]
