car hire

im looking for car hire for my upcoming trip to nyc, las and sfo in september. I have found airline ntework to be the cheapest, by around £100 when compared to others by searching past thread. The only problem is that i need sat nav. many people seem to have used airline network on here for car hire, so can u get sat nav using them , as there is no option on their site during the booking process. any other tips would be appreciated as well

Airline Network usually select Dollar as their rental partner. Dollar offer "mobile" sat nav units for an additional charge when you get to the desk (they're touch screen).

I'd say it's a safe (ish) bet.

Agree Rup - I use airline network and therefore dollar, and they do offer it when you collect the car. But listen to them carefully, as they'll ALWAYS try to offer you a whole range of additonal stuff - some of which you probably already have....[}:)]

Do you have a mobile sat nav device like Tom Tom? If so you can use this. Maps for specific areas are available to download and update on a Tom Tom - I recently did this for the first time during a visit the States and the quality of the map is excellent.

We found an absolutely brilliant price for every island in Hawaii from autoeurope.com and we've just booked them for our Orlando trip in October. The good thing is they use Hertz and gave us the option of sat-nav using their neverlost sytem.

i havent got tom tom might look into that possibility. last year when i picked up the suv from avis, they had run out of sat navs to my horror!! we got lost and it took us 1 hour to find the hotel whcih was only 15 mins away at 1am in the mornining!!! just want to make sure we dont go through the same fiasco next year!!

Slightly OT, but as autoeurope use Hertz, does that mean that the pickup is ON airport and I don't have to get on a goddam bus?[?]

autoeurope were the cheapest I could find too.

Hertz are on-site at the airport too. I'm not totally sure, but I thought all car hire at MCO was on-site.

OK all you guys who have used Hertz at MCO - did you collect your vehicle on or off airport [?]

We collect it off airport, but I really wouldn't worry. I have to say of all the Hertz location in the US this is the most user friendly. Yes you don't hae the advantage of using dollar but their lines when you can potentially be at the back of three VS 747 just landed is hell. Just wisk past them and the shuttle is just outside. It takes 15 minutes with them and we have never had the hard sell "we have a specialy on upgrades this week for the extra $25 a day etc..)

All in all it take 15 minutes to pick you car up. If you're travelling with other it's often easier to leave the others to claim the bags on the second carousel and by the time they have arrived you're back with the car. Plus if you do want to us DTCI on your last day you only have hand luggage to carry into the airport anyway.

I apologise for my mis information. I must be getting confused. Easy done in this heat.

Each to their own Ade, but I have to say that there is nothing worse than trogging all your kit onto a bus for a car pick-up after a 9 hour flight[n]

If you're travelling as a party, and as an alternative to everyone clambering on board a bus, one person could collect the car off-site without luggage and then pick up the rest of the party back at the airport.

So often even when travelling in upper of that silly second carousel you can wait ten to fifteen minutes for your bag to come through. If one of you gets the Hertz Shuttle to the lot and picks the car up you could well still be waiting for all the bags to come through, plus there is always lots of space outside to pick up. Plus we have always had trouble with dollar being slow, their cars are never as nice and the bus with only your hand luggage is only like getting a monorail between terminals. Plus we seriously saved shed loads of cash with autoeurope.com. For three rentals in three and a bit weeks compared to the cheapest other sites we saved over 300 quid!!! That just seems a lot of money for the possible convenience of walking across a road and probably having to wait with the entire rest of a LGW 747

Great idea ade. However, the present Mrs Treelo doesn't drive so yours truly would be the car-picker-upper, leaving her going boss-eyed looking at that infuriating second carousel. But, as it isn't very chivalrous, leaving one's lady with the hoi palloi awaiting the spewing forth of one's luggage, looks like we'll be picking up on airport again

The most user friendly place for car hire just has to be Tampa. The desks are just across the road from the baggage claim area and the cars are in a parking lot immediately behind that. I usually go and do the paperwork while Aer John collects the bags but I am back before they have even arrived at the carousel. As for bringing the car round? No need as it's less than a 200yard walk to the car

It may be worth your while calling them to see which company they use as you may be able to save about £25 and grab a free tank of gas and free three extra drivers.
