I have enjoyed reading this thread, nearly more for the reviews of how best to arrive in downtown San Francisco than for where to buy the IPod. Both BART and Cal-Train will get you there, as everyone's pointed out. Certainly one does not need to hire a taxi.

Does this make sense? If traveling to the US, could you not order one from one of these sites, using the hotel address as your delivery address (or someone you are meeting in the US)? You would pay the appropriate sales tax (for the state where your IPod is delivered, but it will be in dollars) and, if you trust your online buying skills, you'd avoid the crush of humanity at retail stores.

Just purchased an IPod for my mate at an Apple store here in Southern California and was amazed with all the gadgets that I could buy to go along with the IPod. I know absolutely nothing about this amazing product but was captivated by the energy and enthusiasm of all the young people buzzing about the store. There were even a few folks my age -- amazing!

Old topic, I know, but an interesting fact is that USA iPods have a higher volume limit than the EU ones due to some law. I think it's a 30db difference? Last year, I flew 8 times to USA in economy riiiiiiiiight at the back where the engine roar was drowing my music; even with the sony groove earphones.

Need some of those Bose noice cancelling doo-dahs.

Also Apple has 'Refresh' sales. These sales are on items that have been returned and 'refreshed' to new product standards. I recently was in Chicago at the Apple store where 2GB nanos were going for $149.00 (normally $199.00) and the international adaptors $9.99 (normally $39.99). MacBooks (Pros) were about $200.00 off normal prices. All products come with the same warrenties and you can buy AppleCare and/or ProCare for all the various products you buy. Needless to say I went ape-s@@t.

I got my daughter a 'refresh' ipod nano in Apple Store Regent Street for £20 off list. In SFO, Comp Usa is just by the el camino exit if you head towards el camino from the car rental plaza.

Otherwise theres always Frys in Sunnyvale (I'll be there tomorrow, its a given...)

Amazon has good deals--can be sent to hotel....
