BMI Mastercard

Applied for a BMY mastercard last week and MBNA appear to have accepted my application, however they have reduced my VA Amex card credit limit!

I do not have the BMI card yet so I am not sure what limit is on each.

I have also applied for a BMI mastercard as a backup to my VS Amex. I had a feeling that my credit limit would be pooled between the two MBNA issued cards.

I haven't recieved any paperwork yet, my VS Amex limit hasn't been reduced either according to my online access so far.

I will keep an eye on what happens.

I had the same thing with my MBNA AMEX. As I already had an MBNA card, they asked me to split the credit limit from the original one and use some for the AMEX one. What do you mean, I don't seem to use my £17K limit?! [ii]

If you apply for both a BMI fee card and a non-fee card do you receive the 20,000 mile first use bonus for each card?

Chances are they have pooled the two. I originally had a MBNA card before applying for a virgin card. My limit on the original MBNA card was dissolved without informing me, realised when the new V card came through that's where it went. I hate the fact that they can all access noth of my accounts when I only give the details to one and not both. Surely they shouldn't be able to access noth accounts from the information on one...

When did you apply? The best thing to do would be to call then while they are still processing it so you can choose how you want to split your credit up. I have just taken out the BMI card as its the best alternative to the VS AmEx in my eyes. MBNA called me to say that they needed to split up the credit limit - quite why they want to impose a restriction on my expenditure is beyond me, but hey-ho, and i told them how i wanted it. They were originally going to make thew BMI card the primary one with the higher credit limit, but im only intending on using the BMI card as a back-up for non-AmEx acceptance so i requested that they do it the other way around. The person who called me said to call them back up a month after having the card and they would shift the limits up on both cards, apparently the pooling of credit is something to do with initial acceptance.

If you call them they will be able to advise you what the limit is on your BMI - i expect that the amount your VS AmEx has been reduced by will be your new credit limit for the BMI card as that is the process they have been working with so far.

I've been looking at getting a backup for my new VS AmEx, it looks like the BMI mastercard is the way everyone is going and there is a bonus 20,000 destinations miles on your first spend.

I fly BMI from time to time too and you save a small amount by paying with a BMI card, so I guess it will come in handy.

Once miles have accumulated in the BMI a/c I guess they can be easily moved to VS...?

Take a look at BMI's How to Spend Miles

You dont move your miles to VS, you redeem through BMI's program, where you can spend on VS flights. The program is actually pretty good, i am thinking of using my miles for partner expenditure as it seems much better value than VS redemption, plus i have enough FC miles for redemption for VS flights anyway, finding the G's is the hard task.

You can spend your BMI miles on *A, which covers pretty much anywhere you would want to go, including RTW
