The Hilton is nice. Next to a strip club. Right near the airport and they have a free shuttle. Oh and there are great views of the cargo ramp which is very active at night. I for one have never requested a room facing the cargo ramp...

The Doubletree is nice too. Free cookies. Crap restaurant. Free shuttle.

Neil,

I only drive past them on my way to work but in the immediate vicinity there is the Embassy Suites, Airport Marriott, Courtyard, Renaissance Montura, Sheraton, Radisson, Crowne Plaza, Westin plus others lower down the hotel food chain. Shuttles are pretty widespread too. You pretty much know what you are getting with the big chains so it depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of deal you can get.

Unfortunately, I am unaware as to the quality of cookies or proximity of strippers for any of the above.

Cookies at Doubletree are good. Strippers - no idea!

Recently stayed overnight at the Radission LAX, which was booked well in advance through alpharooms for just over £40, room only, 2 double beds. Had a reasonable bar meal in the bar at the top of the hotel which has very good panoramic views of the airport and beyond (and incidentally was full of british planespotters when we first got in there). Breakfast was good value at about $20 for the two of us.

Room was OK - clean but the decor was a bit dowdy for me - still it was only for 1 night. Starbucks coffee with the coffee maker in the bathroom.

Shuttle was regular and efficient - it's easy to work out where to pick them up outside the airport. We went back the following day to get another shuttle out to the Dollar pick up.

Regards

Pat

Can anyone suggest a good hotel close to LAX for an overnight stop - ideally with a shuttle.

Cheers,

Neil it really depends on your budget and what you are looking for. There are a large number to choose from and most provide airport shuttle services. Some of the better ones are mentioned above but any of the more well known chains should be a reasonably safe bet.

You could use a program like TravelAxe to do a comparison, might be worth a look?

This place is something really different and is about 6/7 drive from LAX.

It is really a nice B&B. Great beds, free wifi, fantastic breakfast - and trust me - you do NOT hear any plane despite its proximity to LAX.

Take a pair of binoculars and watch the birds if you are so inclined. Several restaurants within 5 min walk - you have to drive to the posh restaurants.

Not shuttle but then it is not type of place. I often spend the first night in LAX there after the long flight from LHR before driving to PSP in the morning.

The stripers are the normal airport strip club type; just ok.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Talking of the Dollar place, does anyone know if there is a desk in the terminal, or do you just head for the bus? (I'm thinking of getting a cab from the hotel to the Dollar Depot to save some time).

Thanks,

Neil

We've stayed at most of the chain hotels and all are so so. If I would you I chose whichever is cheaper or what points you want/need to earn. Actually come to think of both LAX and SFO all the airport hotels are so-so and always seem to be low down the rankings of the chain hotels we have found.

We rented from Dollar whilst on holiday in 2004. Car pick up/drop off at LAX is not in terminal, bus didn't take long though as it is just along the road on Arbor Vitae.

This might help:

Never had a problem with Dollar and always used the shuttle bus.

Lots of useful suggestions throughout this thread.

No rental cars are kept at the terminal car parks for any rental firms. No car keys are kept at the terminal desks as well. Might as well go to the depot direct if you can where you can get the keys at the counter. Otherwise, you end up queuing once at the terminal and again at the depot.

I never realised that there was a "stripper" type - so there's an "airport" type? Hmmm? Does that mean theres a "next to McDonalds" type? "Near the Mall" type and "out of town so as not to bother the neighbours" type?[}:)]

Well I call the Hilton LAX and asked. She said it is XXX Nude Nude Nude.

Also found this. Carolina West Century Lounge The address is right next to the hotel and the sign on the website fits the detail given by the agent at the hotel.

Paris Hilton (the person) would make a fine add to the club. She already lives in the area.

Needless to say, I changed my booking from the Doubletree LAX to Hilton LAX for my say on 22Sept. Full review to come and remind be if I forget.

You gotta wonder whether this is value for money:

"The VIP skybox is $500 for 30 minutes " and "skybox"???

And Ben, much as I am sure she wouldn't be out of place in a strip club you gotta fancy that Paris Hilton just doesnt need that extra cash you could throw at her!![}:)][}:)][}:)]

Ben,
Hope you enjoy your stay. These nudie bars have been on Century for probably 30 years, part of a string of businesses designed to appeal to travelers passing through LAX. Don't walk alone in this area at night, however. Needless to say, where the XXX places are located is rarely the lowest crime neighborhoods.

I know that you enjoy plane-spotting. You might ask your hotel for directions to The Proud Bird. This old restaurant and watering hole is located very near one of the runway complexes and there is a great view of "birds" landing.

After dinner and some strong drinkies perhaps you'll be able to stomach the B-players who inhabit the nudie bars.[V] In case you change your mind, take a cab into Santa Monica and enjoy the nightlife in any one of many classy joints where, not surprisingly, everyone has their clothes on.;)
