I first used my card on the 26th July, and got my 6000 miles credited on 1 August (and 3500 others for spend). Quite odd considering the statement for August isn't due till the 13th. Normally I get the miles credited on the 13th of the month, so wondering what will happen on my statement date.

I never normally recieve my miles on the 1st of a month either. Think VS and MBNA found they had a problem with the early statement runs, They may have decided to post all bonus miles plus standard monthly miles on the 1st Aug to all cardmembers who had signed up for Amex.

You must have been credited for the miles earnt between 13/07 and around 31/07. You will probably get miles earnt from the 1st Aug on your August statement.

Publicity for the new card wouldn't have been great if the 1st batch of miles for existing members went wrong.......:)

Had something similar in Debenhams over the weekend - put card into the chip & pin machine and after a few seconds it came up and said 'not accepted'. Didn't even give me chance to enter a PIN. Tried a couple of times with the same result and then the assistant gave up, swiped it through the till and asked me to sign.

First time I've used it in a shop so don't know if it's a fauly card or something else.

Mine was swiped at a Sainsbury petrol station last week and worked fine with the pin.

Quick Q. I have not received a letter or an email from MBNA at all and would not even be aware of their new AMEX card or the fact that after December I will no longer earn miles on my Mastercard. Did you all receive communication from MBNA or was it this site/VA site that you learnt about the new card?

Thanks

I think we all got a letter suggesting, very strongly, that we change.

Just experienced and interesting - or worrying - anomaly. Used my card at Tesco's self-service check out. Worked fine - but it occurred to me that using that facility doesn't ask for a PIN - you just swipe and computer either says yes or no....

Not just Amex, it was the same with t'other Virgin card - bit of a security risk, innit peeps???

Yes. However there is some good news.

If someone turns up in your wheels at Tescas, pimps some petrol, and the geezer uses your card, then Tescers will have it all on film, like. So you've been told good an' proper innit, don't use filtched cards at Tescars, no wat i mean.

(Sorry, the other chav thread seems to have been getting to me)

My sorry MBNA story!!

When the new Amex card was originally announced I contacted MBNA and told them I was an existing non fee card holder and wanted to arrange for a Black card. This all seemed to happen with ease, except that when I got my card the literature with it stated only 6000 miles bonus not 10000 and the lower earning rates too. Checked with MBNA that it should be 10000 etc and was told that I was right.

Lo and behold that when the statement came in I had only earned a 6000 mile bonus. Contacted MBNA and asked what was going on. They explained that my application had been treated not as an upgrade but as a new cardholder. I was told easiest way to solve this was to clear the balance on the black card and then cancel it, re-apply for the upgrade.

Did all that this morning and went through the upgrade call (automated). I then realised this would only give me a white card makeing me even worse off so called MBNA again!

I was then told that as marketing had only invited me to upgrade to a white card that is all I could have [:(!] After some time waiting I was then told that my Black card would be re-surrected and they would mail the miles department to get my earning rates changed. I do hope this all works out as I want to book my next UC trip on the card and gain maximum benefit.

Why am i not convinced this will all happen.

Anyone suffer similar issues?

Purchase declined by ITUNES with a message that my card isn't valid in the UK, despite them saying AMEX accepted. Still trying to get to the bottom of this as an online order at the Apple store went through seamlessly 2 days ago and automatically updated my profile in ITUNES(inc card number for 1 -click ordering).[?]

I have been trying to get this fixed for a few weeks, Apple keep telling me that it is a problem with my card and it must be limited in its uses, whereas MBNA tell me there are no limits on my card and it should be fine for use with iTunes.

Hopefully get it sorted soon as i have been using the FC Mastercard but since i got the snotty letter from MBNA telling me to stop using it i thought i better try and transfer across to the AMEX.

Thanks for the welcome.

I got a reply from iTunes:

"I am really sorry that iTunes is not accepting your credit card as a method of payment.

American Express is accepted as a payment method in the UK for iTunes. I have consulted with a manager on this issue and they also do not understand why this would happen.

Unfortunately, the only resolution we could come up with for you is to try using a different credit card, Click and Buy or use a Music Card for your purchases until this issue is resolved.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

UK:
- iTunes Store Gift Cards
- American Express
- MasterCard debit/credit
- Visa debit/credit
- Click & Buy
- Switch
- Solo

Thank you for understanding"

I guess it is back to buying CD's in shops then.

This is strange, I have been using my Blue Amex Card to buy iTunes ever since I have purchased them, ok its not the new VS Amex but basically the same thing, so in theory should work, I will try and change my card to my new VS Amex and see if it works.

Got my first Black card statement, and only got 2 miles per pound with VH. It'll take 7 working days for MBNA to look into it and decide if they can fix it. hmmm. [V]

I have also got my first Black card statement, I calculated I earned over 39000 miles but the statement says 24000 and 13000 have now shown up on the account. I phoned MBNA and they tell me it will all be fixed by the end of September. I just hope its this September .

Hi fellow V-Flyers,

I'm locking this thread now as it has just become too large and unmanageable for us all. There are nearly 400 replies in these 33 pages and its a bit of nightmare pulling out the key aspects. For any member (new or old) to try and navigate and find the right info within the thread is just too difficult.

There are lots of related card posts merged within the one mega-topic; we may look at delving in there in the future and trying to split out the seprate threads and information.

So moving forward, any issues/topics/discussions in relation to the new(ish) VS credit card are welcomed, but in their own thread within the card section.

Any questions, let me or any of the other mods/directors know.

Thanks,
Richard
