NY for £160 inc tax and charges

Delta seem to be offering some cheap fares for its new route LGW-JFK.

Just tried it, and yes, £160.40 for Mar 13 - Mar 18th.

See http://www.delta.com and if the fare doesn't show, use the full search option.

There's also talk of whether Virgin would price match, and a claim that they did.

And Business Class for £604.40 return inc taxes

Based on a Jan/Feb departure.

I seem to do that on every trip (ok, only once or twice a year though) but I should really aim to get some of my own, and I would like the silvery bit of plastic too! [8D]

The CO £160 fares are also in November 06!

That CO BizFirst fare is plus tax (matching the Delta 604 GBP inc) and I'm not sure if it will earn Flying Club miles as they are booked in R class which doesn't show up as an eligible class on the VS website. The Delta Business fares are booked in I class which does earn miles.

Any views on whether to go for Continental or Delta?

There seems to be a raft of ultra low prices to the US around now.
Do ya reckon that bookings are looking down now due to the security issues, and all the prebooked (non cancelable) summer holiday flights are out of the way? Or is this just a normal seasonal sale to attract bums to seats?
Should airlines worry that there is another terrorist induced downturn on the way?

My partner's been thinking about taking the daughter over to NYC for the latter's 16th birthday. I told her about the 160 pound fares being good for February half term, and her reaction was that perhaps we should wait until the security situation "settles down".

The problem with that is, when is that going to happen? A lot of people say they won't go to the USA because its too much of a target but then you look at what has happened in Turkey and now that is a target, the problem nowadays is that there isn't anywhere in the world where you can be totally safe from terrorism, even your own country!

True enough. My argument is that we're more likely to meet our maker before our due date when driving up to Blackpool at the weekend for my mother's birthday party than on a flight. I guess it's one of the hoped for outcomes of terrorism that people act "irrationally".
