Hi,

stayed there for 1 night ( 27th August).

I was upgraded to an Executive room on floor 5 (512)

Currently there is a lot of renovation works in prgress with 80 of the executive rooms being renovated and Oscars bar and brasserie being moved on the ground floor ( using a temporary passageway)- on the walkway on the higher floors you can see the new layout. Posters say work is carried out between 9am and 5pm M-Fr.

Rooms from 520 up to 540 ( left hand side of the hotel) are currently being renovated.

512 is a newly renovated room with different shades of brown.
The bathroom now has a shaded glass door and a heated mirror to prevent steaming ( lighting quality is good)
The bedroom now has a sheer brown curtain lining in front of the main curtains, a full length mirror going back at an angle, new carpets and a new light which with the iad of filters makes a checkered pattern on the white board above the bed. There is also a stand up light with a light both on top and half way down.

Rooms were quiet.

The Executive lounge is very good with evening snacks and open until 1030pm.

There was a good breakfast buffet with a new addition ( hot scrambled eggs).

The fitness center and pool are good ( they also have a day pass for £10- on my outbound flight on the 21st I arrived 2 hours too early to check in so went to the hilton to work out and swim.

Regards

TBS,
Were you upgraded because you are a Hilton Gold VIP?

Have always found the exec lounge there to be one of the best. They extended the breakie items about this time last year which means you can really fill yourself up. Plus from lunch there is always hot soup and sandwiches and then scones at 3ish and hot finger food from six. It is always worth paying for the upgrade if you don't have gold or diamond as the facility is excellent. Plus one thing I have noticed is that they seem to be really good with staff retention with the same staff being there for the past couple of years. It is the only hotel I been to where they've welcomed me back and mentioned my prefered room is available (always go for outside view on the 5th floor near the lounge so you can come and go as you like)

Is there an open bar in the exec lounge or is it still just a couple of hours in the evening.Sods law last time we were there in July could have made use of the exec lounge but failed on an upgrade, first time in 4 stays this year.Don't know if its worth the £80 extra for exec level for a stay in October free beer could sway it[}:)].The work had just started on the kitchens at the end of July, resulting in a limited menu downstairs but the food was not bad.

No fully open bar with beer and soft drinks all day and then the wine and sparkling wine comes out about 430/5ish and there's one of those mean looking fresh coffee machines around the corner that grinds your means for whatever you want. We always find it's worth the £80 if you manage to get there early in the day you make use of lunch, afternoon tea and evening snacks plus unlimited booze which for the pair of us would cost more than £40 each.

Thanks, not going to risk the upgrade, changed bookings to exec rooms for October and xmas, think we will manage to get our monies worth:DIn the past we have had junior with us, coupled with late arrivals and early departures not really been able to take advantage of the lounge.I took 2 bottles of water in total the last visit for the drive home.In July when the exec floor was full we did get full breakfast vouchers as an alternative to the upgrade, again early departure prevented us from using them.
