Cabin Luggage Size

Sorry, this question may have been asked previously, but I'm leaving for Italy tomorrow and have tried a bit of speed reading in vain. I'm flying with Mr O'Leary's airline out of Luton tomorrow and back on one of the nice orange planes from Barcelona back to Luton afterwards. I understand what the cabin luggage size is and what restrictions there are for what you can put in your carry on, but I just wanted to check if the size is the actual dimensions of the carry on or whether it is able to fit in the measuring box at the airport. I would like to take a small ruck sack that is fine for height and width when un-squashed, but not for depth. It will easily squash to less than 16cm though.

I flew out of Liverpool on Mr O'Leary's airline the other week. I had a laptop bag that was bang on the permitted dimensions for carry-on luggage and there was no problem. I did see others with carry-ons that were larger than the permitted dimensions & they did not seem to have any problems getting them through security (including, in one case a large-ish holdall which 2 people were carrying between them, a handle each).

NB: The above was from Liverpool - I did nto see any adapted carry-on bag "size measuring" devices at Liverpool. I would have thought that as long as your chosen carry-on will fit within the permitted size when squashed, you'll be OK. After all, they cannot expect everyone to go out and buy new carry-on luggage.

Thanks for the response, Kraken. Sounds like it's ok to take the ruck sack providing it packs down to the dimensions, which I know it will.[y]
