Yea! Now there is some benefit to UA status. Maybe I will have my miles credited to UA again.

There appears to be alot of confusion with this, the UA website contradicts itself over and over.
I'lll find out next month as I've an ORD-LAS route and MCO-ORD route with UA to do, already been assigned seats in Y+ though so hopefully will be OK.
I'm *G and the missus is *S.

You book your flight in Y and give your *A number (if Ag or Au) or obviously your UA no. You will then get a bump up to their Y+ if it's not already full.
I'm assuming that's what your asking about rather than wanting to know what Y+ consists of?

Officially you can't book straight into Y+, you just book Y and you get it assigned if you qualify. All I've done in the past is book Y and then phone up striaght away to get a seat assignment (Always been given a Y+ without askign due to status). On a couple of occasions I just left it after booking and I was automatically assigned Y+ anyway.
I beleive you can still get it on the day of the flight on a first come first served basis even without any status, obviously that is subject to availability etc.

I think you'll find that UA started "officially" charging an upgrade fee for this at the airport earlier this year.

Not had a problem with this recently. Flew IAD to SAN last week in Y+, was able to pre-book the seat easy enough at ticket purchase time using my BMI *A Gold card. Will have to see if its the same on my next trip though.

I have seen people charged for it though at check-in if they have no status etc.

I bet booking a EconPlus was possible because it was policy to give Star elite EconPlus when for booked.

Honestly, UA offers EconPlus but what other Star carrier matches an economy booking and fare with extra legroom for elites for free? I do not think the benefit can be matched.

Also UA now is operating many, many routes in an all Econ config or a RJ with Y, Y+, and "Snack basket/free booze PE marketed as F." Basically I view Y+ as a slight benefit. UA (well sh**ly Mesa) is the only carrier that flies BNA-IAD (be it in a non-Y+ CRJ). I earned UA status with them but what good is it? Upgrades are pointless. No Y+. No lounge. So my miles go to SQ now. May just workout for the better.

So I am glad that UA is bring value to there FFP for there members. See UA requires 25K miles for status unlike other Britsh airlines who require 16K. Could use a UK address but that is not ethical.

Confirmed as revoked for all *S/*G/Y/B ticket holders:

(Not sent to me personally)

Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

I am sorry you are disappointed with our eligibility changes for a seat assignment in the Economy Plus section of our Economy cabins. United believes our Mileage Plus elite customers and Economy Plus Access members should be rewarded for their loyalty and their purchase decision with products and services we offer exclusively to them. Important to them is first access to pre-assigned seating in Economy Plus. This section of our Economy cabin guarantees a seat with 5 inches of additional legroom and greater seat pitch. We have done this to ensure we meet United's elite customers' expectations.

Your business is important to us as well. For your future travels, please know that on the day of departure you may be given the option to purchase an upgrade to an Economy Plus seat, if available. If you prefer to secure advance seating in Economy Plus, you may be interested in our Economy Plus Access program. For more information and to sign-up for one of the offers, please visit our web site at http://www.united.com/epaccess. While seat assignments are not guaranteed, we will make every effort to honor our Access members' requests.

We appreciate this opportunity to respond and look forward to serving you.

Regards,

To be fair - UA were the ONLY airline to offer *literally* more legroom to *G/*S. No others followed.

(I don't see BD giving access to PE for free to *S/*G on their flights... [:w])

True. I am just in the disillusioned boat with *G now. Seems like other than *A lounge access, the only real benefit left is the free luggage tags :D Though i am in cynic mode, so ignore me :)

TBH, since any and every *A airline started GIVING the status away, I'm at a point of leaving *A well behind (and have been for quite some time now).

Problem is, OW means BA. Errgghhh... [n]

Paul and Sarah,
Perhaps you should check out Sky Team Elite where upgrades -- on NW, at least -- are free and better seating is offered free to elites of all levels. I'm becoming a convert (after flying over 900,000 miles on UA, by the way).

NorthWorst, Chuck? ;)

Not sure i'd manage a lot of flights with Sky Team, particularly as his Lordship wont touch Delta.

Gulfstream International however ... hmm ... :D

Thanks,
Sarah
